M-m-m-my Ramona: Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Feb 09, 2009 10:40

As if I couldn't be any more in lust with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, or any more obsessed with Ramona Flowers, the godlike Edgar Wright has deemed it right to bring the two together in his forthcoming adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim books.

I know I am the target demographic, but I can't stand Scott Pilgrim.

Symmetrical, I'll grant you, but bland-looking.

I've had a long time to think about this and actually, no not symmetrical. Her eyes are different sizes and shapes to each other - it's one of the things I really like about her.

The books are very funny - set in a weird world that's mostly like ours, but with a few odd elements that I won't spoil for you. I'm sure you'd be able to pick them up for a couple of dollars online.

I don't know who she is, but she totally has Ramona's face!

See Final Destination 3, Die Hard 4, Sky High and Death Proof. But don't actually see Death Proof, it's totally rubbish. The rest are great.

I wanted to see Grindhouse in the cinema but had no interest in the dismembered parts, and Final Destination 3 didn't appeal even though I liked the first two, but I have seen Live Free Or Die Hard (CIBIN) and yet still have no recollection of her. The daughter, I'm assuming?

Yes, she was Lucy McClane.

Having watched Planet Terror (the Rodriguez half of Grindhouse) this weekend and having loved it, I'm convinced that splitting them was the best thing to do. Death Proof would only have dragged PT down.

Final Destination 3 is actually my pick of the bunch (I wrote about it almost exactly three years ago here), and I like all three films.

You should check out Sky High too: broadly it's Harry Potter with superheroes, and it's a bit schmaltzy at times, but a killer cast and some lovely concepts make it solid entertainment.

I don't know these people (excl. Wright, obv.) or references. I pay my license, post about something I know.
