Nation & World | Locally produced food is celebrated | Seattle Times Newspaper

This article made me tear up a little. Kinda like I always do when I read about people rediscovering the most basic connections we have to the Earth and the food that we eat.

The world is changing and the people that inhabit it are pushing for that change.

Isn't it grand?

It is grand! At the market yesterday, we bought a whole big stalk of brussel sprouts... people kept stopping us and asking what was sticking out of our bag. Just goes to show how removed we've gotten from our food...

It seems the brussels are always confusing people. I once told someone that the whole stalk was for a floral arrangement. Ha!

Hey - that's a good re-use idea... it'll eventually end up in the composter anyway but no sense not getting every last use out of it;).

Good article--that's essentially SPIN farming--Small Plot Intensive--that Callender is doing. I'd happily cede my north forty (well, my east 2500 square feet) to someone in exchnage for some produce.

I'm surprised you're not at SFN08 yourself!

Sadly, our attempts to grow money trees have so far been unsuccessful...

Yeah. The compost for that is really hard to come by.

SPIN is a useful idea! There was a Portland guy on a bike who was profiled in a FoodDay article awhile back doing this same thing. Maybe we can get him in contact with you?
I wish I was down in SF! However it would be hell getting me to come back.
