All right, flist folk, I need a little help. When you have a spare minute, please take my poll. If you'd like to comment afterward, feel free. And does anyone know how to get rid of or hide the poll info (number and who can view it)?

My first thought was, "No, Jeeves just can't cry".

But upon further thought, I think that maybe he'd let a tear or two escape if Bertie broke his heart, or if Bertie died (heaven forbid) or if something very terrible happened to Bertie.

Why does it all come down to Bertie?

In slashy Jooster fanfic, it always does, doesn't it? I can see Bertie crying his eyes out in private, but having a stiff upper lip in public. Poor fellows.

Jeeves is rather, er.... he's not really into displaying emotions, is he? It's hard to imagine his stuffed frog expression cracking in front of anyone. But in private..... Hell, everybody cries in private, I think.

I feel that if Jeeves cried, it would be tears just falling from his eyes, 'coz he can't hold it together anymore. Bertie on the other hand, would go for the 'crying into the pillow' thing. But neither of them would do it in public.

Why this poll, if I may ask so?

I am so tempted to say "When he stubs his toe." Even God would get watery eyes. But then again, we're talking about JEEVES.
I do think, that if someone very close to him had something terrible happened to him, or died, he'd cry. I imagine him sitting on his bed at night when his duties are no longer wished, and he can't occupy his mind, and simply gets overcome.

D'aw. Poor Jeeves.

Ah, so a busy mind and many duties could keep grief at bay. That makes sense, as does the idea that he wouldn't ever be a sobbing wreck, but would shed just a few lonely tears.

I can picture what you've described here. Oh dear.

I think it would require lots and lots of things going on at once, including Bertie breaking his heart. If life is going along swimmingly and Bertie happens to walk up to him and say, "Jeeves, old fellow, I am not and I will never be in love with you," it'd sting, but the mask would hold. It would have to be Bertie and a whole lot of other things wearing him down emotionally. I agree with hephaistia, though, that Bertie's death could probably manage it, and maybe a few other Very Bad Things happening to Bertie. Bertie permanently losing his innocence in one way or another might do the trick.

Oh, I agree. An incident such as you describe, with Bertie simply saying, "I don't love you, old thing," would not do it. Jeeves has too much pride. This is a very hard call to make, and I thank you very much for your advice.

Reading between the lines (ha, ha), I foresee dark times coming to Jeeves. And judging from this icon, so does he, looking at you apprehensively, storyfan. "What is this woman planning?" he asks himself and his strong heart grows colder, surrounded by shadow of evil foreboding.

True, this is skilled author who helped him find his true love and proceeded to indulge him in melted-lava hot carnal relations on secluded beach/in the house/on the bed/against the wall/in the closet/in drag and without a stitch on/drunk and sober, and that made Jeeves very favorably inclined towards her. But on the other hand... he remembers Love is Blind only too well... And what about that fiction ABOUT HIS FEET?!

Will Jeeves succeed in his struggle against the inevitable, armed with nothing but his massive brain and extensive knowledge of psychology of the individual? Will he find another happy ending? OR NOT?!? Find out in the next installment.

EDIT: icon.

Why the hell aren't you writing fic? Or have you and I just don't know about it? If so, give over. This is hilarious. And these guys get more sex than I thought. Seems like they'd be worn out by now.

Thanks for the true day-brightener. I think I'll do a cross-stitch wall hanging with it.

GOD, you tell me. And I have forgotten in the water, with the fruit and on the chesterfield. It totally makes up for their misfortunes.

Re fic: you will soon know why not, I´m afraid, as I signed up on niektete´s Around The World fic. If you happen to know about a patient beta, please give me a hint, I will thank you in tears.

I think he can cry, he is only a human, after all, but it should be a really grave and serious reason for this. Something terrible and absolutely extraordinary should happened. Or, as janeturrene has already said, a lot of things at once.

"Only a human after all." I think sometimes Jeeves is perceived as an emotional robot who can't get angry or fall into despair. He's not the type of character who's going to cry all over the place, but a few tears I can see. But you're right, it has to be for a very good reason.

Well, he displays some emotions in canon, after all :-) Do you remember his reaction on Bingo's beard? "I saw the man's jaw dropped, and he clutched for the table for support." :-)))
