Job hunt

May 11, 2012 03:06

It's not going very well. But I start a couple of open-entry tech classes soon, so maybe that will help the search. According to the adviser (a lovely ex-principal from the Detroit area), the classes can be completed in a couple of weeks ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about the job hunt. I hope the classes help.

The art fundraiser sounds really cool.

I'm filling out some more apps every day, so maybe something will break soon.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Sorry to hear you're not getting the traction you want, sigh. The job hunt can be such a drag. Are you on Linked in? They have professional groups that sometimes have insider info on jobs that you don't usually see elsewhere. Know that I'm definitely rooting for you, if that helps at all.

I haven't done Link-In yet; I'll have to try it. That might be a good way to find something on a professional level.

Your rooting for me does help, more than you know. If my friends have my back, then I'll be all right.

*hugs*

We're in the same boat, I think. I'm going from decently paid jobs to wishing I could just find something that would help pay the bills.

I know there's a job for me out there. I've told the spouse I should write porn for a living, and he told me to have at it.

Sorry to hear the hunt's not yielded anything. I'm sure the tech classes won't hurt though; as much as I hate quoting supermarkets, 'every little helps'. Bugger you, Tesco, for nicking what was once a lovely phrase. Also, and I really feel like a twonk for saying this, but every time I hear/read someone say they're 'rooting' for someone, my early introduction to Australian English kicks in, and I start picturing positions. To root = to shag. To root for X = to shag for X. Then again, I probably won't hurt either.. Might even get some lovely sexytimes out of it.

That fundraiser sounds like potential fun though : D I've been thinking about trying to find some sort of group-related hobby in town just so I'll have to make new acquaintances, because I probably need the practice. Your neighbour sounds nice as well, wanting to make sure you've been invited.

I start my classes on Monday. I'm looking forward to them simply because I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere. Even with a few weeks of work I'll be able to say I'm experienced to some degree.

That's funny about "shag" and "root." I'll have to remember that.

My neighbor is a lovely woman. She lost her husband a couple of years ago, and I know that's been tough for her.

I know the feeling, I felt a bit like that that year when I, against all my plans, found myself working full time and not studying at all. So I took Russian at the night college just so I felt I was learning something that might be relevant later. Though I'm sure your classes will be easier to 'sell' to potential employers : )

Yeah. Environmentally damaged from too many Australian crime shows/police dramas at a tender age (read: from the age of 5). They've got some of the most wonderful vocabulary though. Like 'root/rooting'. Good luck hearing that in any American sports thing and not thinking of spectators or fans fornicating like rabbits on drugs ever again. You're welcome.

Good for her that she's at least being social and stuff : ) Not everyone would be able to do that, even if it's been a couple of years. I think it's healthier if people manage that, socializing, I mean.
