5 Things - A Donald Strachey Mysteries fic thingie

Nov 26, 2010 02:46

I've written five shorties for a Donald Strachey Mysteries prompt fill over at smallfandomfest. They're rated PG-13 at most, primarily for Donald's potty mouth.
Disclaimer: I do not own these lovely characters. Richard Stevenson is their daddy.

5 Things Donald Wished Timmy Knew )

rating: pg-13, angst, fluff, fanfiction, donald strachey mysteries, fan fiction

Thank you! There's nothing quite like a cute gay detective, is there?

Agh. All right, you've got me. I need to read these books.

our couch is brown? I thought it was black

*giggle* I have arguments with my mother and father over things like this all the time. (She's usually right and he's usually wrong.)

You'd like the books which are lot different from the films. The boys are younger in the movies and probably better-looking than the author ever imagined! Also, the relationship between the two is really played up in the films, and not so much in the books.

All the movies are available on netflix - Third Man Out, Shock to the System (there are two different movies with the same title; look for the one with Chad Allen), On the Other Hand, Death and Ice Blues.

Edit: There's a beautiful, tasteful love scene in Third Man Out. I just wanted to warn you in case you decide to watch this with your family.

Thanks! For the rec and the warning. :)

Unless I can find the movies online somewhere, I'll probably have better luck buying the books. My mother tends not to check what I'm buying there. I don't think she would actually object to my watching the movies, but she probably wouldn't take kindly to a charge on our bill for something she wouldn't ever even watch with me.

That was lovely. Donald's voice was strong and clear through the whole piece. Three and Four were my favorites and made me grin like crazy.

Thanks for saying what you liked. That helps a lot. I find I do much better with humor than I do with angst.

Don's got a distinctive narrative voice, and he's fun to write. I find Timmy a lot more difficult to manage. Must be that Jesuit background of his.

You're welcome. Donald is great for humor, Timmy definitely has a sense of humor, but Donald has such a talent for snark. Timmy works better for writing fluff or angst, at least for me, he has such a genuine sincerity to him that he just leans that way.

Timmy is a snarky bitch in the books, which I find highly entertaining. When I write him, I tend to write a hybrid of movieverse and bookverse. Same with Don.
