A brisk walk with a podfic

Apr 13, 2009 22:38

Just downloaded the podfic "The Rum Situation with Rocky" last night to listen to on today's walk. What a wonderful job theempress14 does on these. The story is by waqaychay , of course. I'm running out of Jooster podfics to download, so I hope more are made sometime, but I do realize what a lot of work they are.

Which reminds me: How do you like your recorded voice? ( Read more... )

I made the mistake of trying to listen to the podfic BEFORE reading the story. I happily said to myself, oh, what-ho! a lovely podfic to listen to whilst at my desk job.

Let me tell you something.

I nearly died choking on my tea during the first naughty bit. I had to turn it off for fear of alerting my coworkers to less-than-office-appropriateness going on.

For podfic, may I point you to this site: Jooster Podfic and others too!I've not downloaded everything from there yet, so I'm not certain if every link works, but it looks promising ( ... )

Thanks for the link. There are a few I hadn't heard of yet. I'm trying to borrow some of those BBC productions you mentioned from my library. I love those. My library has a couple of full-cast Agatha Christie productions that are just marvelous. The 4:50 from Paddington is one of them.

I wouldn't have dared to listen to these podfics at any of my places of employment. Once in a while I took a chance at looking at the Indeed Sir site and had to close it up fast, clear my history and delete the cookies. Yowza!

Happy writing to you to, old thing.

i'm feeling the lack of new jooster podfics, too. but, luckily, triedunture is working on new ones. :D

i'd do some myself, but... i have a lisp that is really annoying. it's not as bad as, say, gussy fink-nottle's, but it's quite close to drew barrymore's. just enough to make listening to me for any length of time grate on your nerves. and there are some words that are just nearly impossible for me to pronounce. like "particularly" and "beth's". (which really sucks, as i work at a place called beth's bargain barn. oi.) besides, i couldn't do a convincing british accent to save my life, so i guess it's best i stay away from the microphone for a lot of reasons. *lol*

People have told me I grate on their nerves but have never said why - now I know! I'ts my monotone voice. Well that's a relief. I'd thought I'd just kept saying the wrong thing.

I with theempress14 or tridunture could record your entire "Jeeves in Love" series. Now that would be some fun listening.

NO! No no no! This could work! When we all do our great and glorious community production of Wodehouse, YOU must do Gussie! Yes! I can see it now! No, wait, HEAR it now! It'll be awesome! *wanders off raving like a loony*

;p
Sorry, having a silly morning.

Yay, walkies! Enjoyable, indeed, with something interesting to listen to.

I downloaded three of Triedunture's podfics a while back and only recently got off my bum and LISTENED to them. Loved 'em! Thanks for the link to more audial fun!

My issue with my own voice is that I feel I sound like a teenager. Up into my twenties I occasionally had phone callers asking if my mother was home. :p

However, I've noticed a strange phenomenon of late: I was in drama/theatre arts in HS and afterward, and did quite well with my lines in plays and reading aloud in classes, but lately when I read aloud, I find myself stumbling over words and reading in that annoying monotone that high schoolers USUALLY use. ACK! What happened? My luv says I'm just out of practice, but I worry. Perhaps I should try reading some fics and see if I can limber up the old vocab & intonation.

We've been having a lot of fun things popping up on Indeedsir, I agree. Quite the lively community!

I ought to do this, too. I loved reading aloud when I worked at a school, but I used to try to use different voices for the characters. Perhaps if I put some effort into it, I might not sound half bad. But I couldn't record the frisky stories. I'd be blushing and giggling too much.
