So I was talking to my friend Brad tonight... And he tells me that our friend Jarryd's mum was murdered 2 days ago. I wasn't that close to Jarryd but I am super close with his best friends. And I hung out with him for a while when I visited them all. He's a cool kid. It's really horrible that this happened to him. I'm talking to my friend Nathan

That must be hard for you, but also odd, I mean, in a way it might remind you that you're not alone in missing a father.

My family has fucked up secrets about things like this. It's not fun when what's a given for some, is missing for others... but I guess that's true of many things.

Yeah... I feel kinda guilty about feeling sorry for myself though. What happened to my dad could be considered the natural course of things... Having your mother murdered is pretty much the worst thing I can think of.
I've sent my condolences but really I feel like it's not really going to help.

Sadly this is not the worst thing to appear on my flist in the past 24 hours. There was this. But I suspect that's comparing apples and oranges, as alfodr_blot seems to be covering old ground... and what's happening with your friend seems like a rather fresh trauma. Still, it's good to know perspective may one day be reached, and that there are things worse than death.

That is true... Any abuse or loss I have suffered throughout my life and my friend's loss have faded or will fade with time. Not to say they will be gone completely but the sharp hurts dull eventually. But having your mother taken from you is not something that is easy to move on from.
