I think the whole point of NaNo is to learn about yourself as a writer, and hopefully have a decent first draft to work with, but learning about yourself is probably the best part. I did it last year and I realized I'm a slow writer; I need to wait for moments of inspiration. If doing NaNo taught you that you need to edit as you go, then it's already paying off, and that's exactly what you should do. I wish you luck! I'm sure you'll be able to reach the 50K goal.
