There's way too many possibilities, but one thing I'm fairly certain of is they have not had make-up sex yet, what author gives up that opportunity to write that, pfft really they're going to have to get it on before anyone gets gone. Just my very conclusive and rock-solid theory right there ;)

Hahaha you're right, though KMM has said numerous times that it's not strictly romance but rather has romantic undertones. So, I think you're right but KMM's surprised me in the past (in a really good way; I tire of straight romance easily) so who knows.
