I never thought about the extra attention needed to book a flight with a pet.

We did bring our cat Benson* back from Germany in 1981, but that was a military contract flight so easy enough to set up as part of our processing.

*Benson was a stray kitten hanging out near my work on Bitburg Air Base; one of my coworkers rescued him and we took him in. After his one and only airplane ride, he made road trips from NJ to MT, MT to TX, and TX to LA in his lifetime.

I wanted to bring my kitties back to the UK with me but it would have costed about $2000 per cat so it was just not happening (though the UK is an extra pain because of having to prove they don't have rabies).

I just heard this morning one of them had to be put down. :(
