We have a sick kitty in our house. King is an elderly cat, and has long-term kidney disease, so he's fairly sedate most of the time already. Yesterday though, he was threw up his breakfast and hasn't eaten much since. Nathen is giving him chicken broth which he laps at occasionally. I am sitting close enough to a shelf of LPs that I can touch them. Mind you, I haven't played any of them in quite a while, but I do have a record player in the house. Wish I could lend you an LP to try your player with.

I hope King improves. It's painful to watch our critters suffering.

Thanks for the well-wishes for King. I'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow for my housemate, who can't get away from work. Hopefully all will be well.

I didn't realize how early folks were working on reading LPs with a laser! I just went and read a Wikipedia article about it; thanks for the pointer. I really love pieces of technology that represent the tail end of an era. So often, they're the biggest, best, most complex examples of the technology. They're sort of a crowning achievement. (That's part of why I like the really late steam locomotives like the UP Big Boy so much.) They were special, and we will not see their like again.
