--not a costume![And the camera swings up from a lovely view of the inside of Rex's pocket to a shot of his irate face. Rex is sort of bundled up, trying to look OH, SO CASUAL, even though there's nothing he can do to hide the ventilator. It's pretty obvious. So, he's cold and cranky. Enjoy him hissing and seeeeething his ( Read more... )

At least pretend like you're enjoying yourself.

Candy? [Iago gives him a roll of his eyes and just steps inside, throwing his bag of clothes in a chair and inspecting the room.]

Why would I have candy?

[He shrugs a little, closing the door behind Iago.] The Doctor stopped by moments ago, bearing candy and wine. [He walks over to a table and picks up the bottle.] Red.

[Iago eyed the bottle and finally relaxed enough to sit down, wrinkling his nose as he took off his jacket and undid the first two buttons of his shirt. It was considerably warmer inside than out.]

Which Doctor? And what sort of candy? [Iago was intrigued by this candy thing. He had it once...maybe. He could never remember what he had tried on the ship or in his travels and what he hadn't.]

Are you planning on sharing?

[Rex looks between Iago and the bottle of wine, wondering if it looks strange that he's holding it up while the other man is unbuttoning his shirt a little. He sets it down and grabs the bag of candy the Doctor left.]

The short one-- the one who calls himself Dr. John Smith. And, ah, let me see... [He looks at the bag, then unceremoniously dumps its contents onto the other (possibly Harper's) bed in the room.] A fine assortment. Take as much as you'd like; I couldn't possibly eat it all. [After all, he has to maintain his girlish figure.]

[Iago actually is totally oblivious to the way it looks and any thought about it is swept away as Rex emptied the colorful assortment of candies on the bed. He practically jumps out of his seat and sorts through the candy, ignoring his urge to organize it by color or size or alphabetical by brand.]

Is any of it chocolate? [He says this word as if it's sacred.]

[He tilts his head as he looks at the assortment, then shifts some of the candy bars over into their own pile.]

Peanut butter cups. Snickers. Three Musketeers... [He picks up a teeny box of candy.] I was always more partial to the fruit-flavored ones.

[That got an eyebrow raise, but he said nothing about it. Instead, he picked up the candy bars Rex didn't touch, none of them familiar, of course. Unwrapping one labeled Twix and finding that it was indeed chocolate, he bit into it and, not expecting the sticky caramel, flinched away and stared at it.]

What is that?!

[He watches Iago, then bites back a laugh. WHOOPS. He'd just assumed that having been on the Barge for as long as he had, Iago would have already been exposed to these things. Clearly, he was wrong.]

Caramel and... a wafer. [That was in Twix, right? He hadn't had any since he was a teenager.] If you want something similar, without the caramel, I'd suggest the Kit Kat bars. If you're feeling daring, the Snickers.

[This is such a weird conversation. What is Rex's life.]

[Their last Halloween had been far from candy filled and there had just not been any interest for him after. He knew chocolate, of course, and considered it a rare thing, but to see it in such abundance...it was spectacular. He finished off the first bar and, with the second one in his mouth, began to search around for this wonderful delicacy called Kit Kat or Snickers.]

How can you now enjoy this? [His voice, garbled with Twix bar and caramel, was still somewhat intelligible, hopefully.]

Overexposure, I suppose. [He takes a seat and removes the ventilator briefly to pop some Nerds into his mouth.] I used to live off of this as an undergraduate. [Candy, energy drinks and noodles... How did he survive his first years of college? He looks at the box of the tiny little tarts.] Eat enough of this, and your tongue practically goes numb.

[Iago found what he was looking for and finished the Twix, moving to the Snickers next. He was slightly disappointed when he bit into it, though. Who wants nuts in their chocolate? He didn't want to waste it, though, so he just chewed on it thoughtfully.]

Undergraduate?

[Rex nods.] When I went to university. [He doesn't know enough about Renaissance living to know how schooling went for Iago, but he figures "university" says enough. He picks up a Reese's peanut butter cup and tosses it over to Iago.] You may like this one.

[Iago knew university and that seemed to placate him enough. Besides, he was distracted by the peanut butter cup. He unwrapped it and added the wrapper to his growing pile.]

Peanut butter! [As if this was a new concept. Of course, he knew what peanut butter was...but to mix it with chocolate...he was skeptical. That is...until he took a bite.]

Do you have another?!

Let me see... [He digs around the pile a little and tosses aside a few more peanut butter cups.] These are the superior choice, given the assortment.

[He gets up and begins to open the bottle of wine with a conveniently placed wine key, since he'd like to have something while Iago's about to launch into a sugar rush.]

Care for any?

[Since Iago wasn't expecting a sugar rush of any kind, he nodded, opening another peanut butter cup.] Please. [With that in his mouth, he stood up, throwing the wrappers away on his way to the bathroom to wash his hands. They were already sticky and he didn't like it!]
