I know. It's all protest vote. No one actually believes in the IP platform (because they don't really have one; they just leave things up to the individual candidate so it's mostly moderate former members of the other parties), they just vote for them when the other candidates are too annoying. Which unfortunately was the case with Franken/Coleman - everyone is SO sick of both of them.
Bachmann's district is pretty conservative so that wasn't a huge shocker. Minnesota is basically two little splotches of blue where the Twin Cities are, surrounded by a sea of red. There's more blue in the northern part of the state where the old school labor type Democrats are, but they are socially conservative. We just luck out because the tiny blue metro area is where all the people live.
