Thor/Avengers fanart plagiarism

May 14, 2012 18:59

On April 27th I have posted a fan graphic on my tumblr (link). The graphic has been reposted (without permission or credit) to the thorki community on LJ ( link) later the same day by hysteria101. I left a comment on the entry asking for proper credit and providing the original link. I also replied to those who left kind words, thanked them and let them know it was ( Read more... )

graphic whine
Hey stop whining about your graphic cause once it's online it's mine lol.

Well, isn't she a darling.

I, too, am surprised she hasn't been banned by a mod and the post removed.

Positively enchanting.

I have asked for the post to stay until the case is closed, then it shall be removed for good. It's kind of silly, because I wouldn't have minded the art staying (it was in a relevant community after all), I just wanted credit to go with it. Obviously, some consider that too much to ask for.

When I see something like this, I always hope that maybe its someone very young who just doesn't get it. But their profile shows they are almost 30.

I know, right? Apparently, human stupidity is not as limited as one would like to assume.

Unfortunately it's quite common. People do literally think anything on the net is theirs. On other communities i've had to deal with individuals that would repost others con photos without knowledge or permission using 'but I just wanted to share the wonderful pics' as an excuse. Translation: Let me get an ego boo and thanks for posting stuff that isn't mine.

respect for ownership is a dying thing unfortunately. And there's a bunch of self entitled folks out there.

Or as Voltaire had said, common sense is not so common. People should be able to realize that stealing fan works is not at all different from walking into the Louvre and pocketing the Mona Lisa. It's the same game on a lower difficulty setting.

...pffff. Sorry, kid; that's not how it works.

Tbh, I can't believe the entry is even still up, considering she's deleted all outside attempts at crediting you. If it were one of my comms, I would have deleted and banned so quickly once that happened. However, modding can be awkward business sometimes, and no one wants to be the "bad guy," so I can definitely see why they haven't if you haven't requested it. And, by the way, I think you should get props for asking only for credit and not deletion, even after she showed what a "lovely" individual she is.

I also have to wonder if she's lied on her LJ about being 28 or if this is really considered appropriate behavior at her age. Of course, this is the internet, and I've run into women in their thirties and forties who were just as classy and mature as this person.

Annnd the fact that she deleted the moderator's comments too apparently! How ballsy of this chick!

Exactly that. I mean, just, what? You just do not DO that. In ANY community. REGARDLESS of whether or not it's stated in the rules. Now, member comments, okay, I can see confusion over it, so I tend to have a rule in my comms not to delete any comments at all, which is only so that we mods can see evidence if someone starts shit on someone's post.

But this girl is clearly just deleting to cover her own ass-and badly.

I don't think she's deleting to cover her ass... I think she's the worst type -- a troll who just doesn't give a crap, and is out to piss people off as much as she can.

Wow. You appear to have picked up someone who is a troll as well as a plagiarist, unfortunately. My sympathies.

Thanks. All this support is making me happy I turned to this community. It's a great feeling to know there are people on your side.

I just can't get how that logic remotely works for her. By that meaning, everything on the internet (uploaded classic books, movies, tv shows...) also belong to here?. No, really, I don't get it. People never stop amazing me with their lack of, well, common sense? intelligence? maturity? All of them?

And I can't believe she's left that comment on your lj, I mean, why? Because one thing is trying to hide that's originally yours by deleting comments and the like; but go and say something to your own journal - isn't that just stupid? Or it's just me?

I hope it gets solved soon dear ;)

Nah, she's probably just a troll who thrives off of attention methinks.

Have to agree with tsarist_secret, I see no reason why she had to come to my journal and comment openly (instead of sending a PM for example) other than a desire for attention. It is perhaps fortunate that the comment slipped my radar - at that time I might have reacted differently than I did.
