I also really took offense at the way the mods at CM_Exchange conducted the whole issue. It was badly done and put race the ace at risk of being attacked on her own journal if mondays eyes had been a different person.
In my opinion, and I realize it is my own opinion, the whole fic was circumspect and the author should be watched at the very least.
But, then I'm not a mod here and have no say in the matter. I also do not expect you to change your decision. It stands and I accept that.
I also wanted it known that I was the one who encouraged Ace to contact you, should anyone want a target.

It is possible that the story was floating around. While that may be considered bad form, for sure, it is not plagiarism. We have had a handful of instances such as this, some with even closer themes and similarities, and while they can certainly raise one's eyebrow, they are not considered plagiarism for our purposes.
But it is good to question! It is good to note there there is a level of discomfort raised. Because there is a probability involved. So, again, thank you for encouraging your friend to report the case. I am glad we got a chance to review it for her and hopefully answer some questions along the way. You are indeed a good friend, and devoted fan!

There are too many instances lately of authors being attacked. I wanted to protect her from that, as I was in law enforcement for almost 2 decades, I saw the other fic from that point of view. I used to primarily investigate fraud, embezzlement, and child molestation cases and one credo we worked by is that there are no coincidences. That was the viewpoint I was coming from.
I told her I'd be watching the other author, discretely of course, for any more instances.
