captain-ally and potential TW plagiarism

Jun 02, 2010 20:44

I'm a little hesitant to bring this up because I'm not quite sure if it's a simple case of incredible fandom hive mind or actual plagiarism, since it's not word for word.

On June 1, a reader brought this link to my attention. A reader on twstoryfinder was looking for a specific story:

I remember part of it was set during Meat, it might have spanned more than ( Read more... )

Good thing because captain-ally's story is no longer to be found.

I have two more screen caps that she sent me, but my computer is being ridiculously slow. The original poster also mentioned that she removed a second story in her PM, but we do not have caps of that. It just always raises a flag when more than one is removed.

Turns out he's she's also on LJ:

ETA: His Her masterlist on his LJ contains a LOT more fics than his FF.net account does.

I hope you made screencaps of it, because it looks like the author removed the story.

Wow... ~listens to the echo~ I wonder where she'll turn up next, cause this has a very strong taste of "Oops! Busted! Leaving now." It makes me wonder about all the other stories posted to the LJ. Y'all were lucky to grab the caps you did. Good job all around.

Thank you all so very much, especially for being so patient with me concerning the screencaps while I was out of town! (of course, this crops up right before I have to go to Vegas to be in a wedding for a week)

I was going to PM you, but since you're back I'll post it here. Hope Vegas was fun and sorry about paying $25 for internet to send screen caps. On a side note, I was shocked about that! I thought that internet would be one of those included incentives or something along the line of the $2.99 all-you-can-eat buffets. I suppose it makes sense in a way, just never put thought into that.;)

I heard back from the author this evening. I did respond once, but waiting to see if she writes back before I post the findings. I also had PM'd a few mods who were going to look at the other stories but this was before I had heard from her. At this point, waiting is more along the line of polite protocol. I'll wrap it up shortly.

Truthfully, I think that she wants to put this behind her too, so hopefully it's just a life lesson by a thirteen year old.

We were all surprised at that, too! And it wasn't all that big a deal, since I needed to look up directions on an excursion out of city the next day. Just 13 bucks. Vegas is more expensive than it seems, I guess -- and not just at the tables!

I'm glad to hear that. What's done is done, let's turn the page. And I really do hope this doesn't put her off writing her own material.
