The Case Against TiaraLi

Apr 19, 2010 21:31

On April 10 it was brought to our attention here by absofluffiness that TiaraLi on Fanfiction.net had plagiarized NiqueMon's My First Love with the story What Am I Suppose [sic] To Do? screencap here. I investigated and determined that the story was plagiarized with some outright copy/paste and some reworking of NiqueMon's original story.

I contacted TiaraLi ( Read more... )

I think you need a tag for my friend/sister/cousin made me do it! (And I notice this case blames two of the above *g*)

Okay, first she blames her cousin, then her sister. She can't even keep her story straight for a few sentences. And yes! The evil, fic-stealing relative strikes again! Plagiarists are so predictable.

She needs to improve her English and figure out whether her "sister" or her "cousin" drove her to this heinous act. As I understand it, she is very young and probably thinks her excuse is original and that no one will knows she was smoking out behind the garage.

CONGRATS as usual!!!!

You're welcome. I modelled my reports on what some of the more experienced mods have done and asked lots of behind the scene questions ( ... )

And may I suggest that you get someone proficient in English to beta read your stories first before posting them? 'Cause stories with good plots are often ruined by errors in spelling, grammar and sentence structure.

Will this beta find stories for her to steal? How can she be given credit for 'good plots' when she steals them?

I know what you're saying, Autobadgirl, and as a teacher, I'm sure you also see the mentality of 'We don't want to crush their little souls.' Er, better to learn these lessons at thirteen, because when she's tossed out of college for plagiarizing, or worse, grad school, it'll be a lot worse than some embarrassment for a screen name identity.

Exactly, although a good soulcrush, judiciously applied as a teaching method, does wonders for incipient douchebaggery.

I suspected a child of forging a doctors note (a suspendable offence) and asked them to fess up. They denied it. So BAM! I laid it all out including the email I sent to the Drs office and their reply. We had a good old "come to Jesus" talk about that AND his grades and behavior. Now? This child now thinks I have sooper-psychic powers and never pulls crap with me.

Judicious soul-crush applied.
