Allen was glad that he'd managed to eclipse himself, and hoped the others were having too much fun to worry about him or his absence. He liked Christmas, really, he did - the smile on everyone's faces, the smell of cookies and turkey and mashed potatoes, the snowmen and the Christmas lights. He'd never truly celebrated it, not really, so he'd expected to be excited enough to forget. That was apparently too much to hope for, as most of the day he'd kept thinking back, of Mana's warm hand holding his, of cold nights spent trying to warm each other up with stories and jokes and new clown tricks ( ... )

Shinjiro's pace slowed as his mind wandered. His eyes traveling from the festive lights, to the snowmen (if some could be called men, they did have tendrils after all), to all of the decorations adorning the corridors. His eyes dropped to the ground as snow crunched beneath the hard soles of his shoes. He focused on the sound to keep himself from looking up.

Just one more gift to drop off. Then he could find some maintenance corridor, someplace secluded where he could wait out the day. He'd already said words to Mitsuru, to others who asked where he'd be, so he was determined to tuck himself far away; someplace where people who could sense chi, or track his scent or anything else wouldn't be able to find him.

He just didn't have the heart to share in a day that belonged to family when he had already taken someone else's family away.

He breathed out, a cloud of steam rising in front of him as he made his way to the elevator.

Why the fuck was it getting colder.

Allen wasn't about to stop himself from crying, as he'd come to a secluded corner knowing it was likely to happen. Despite the events dating to a few years back, they were still fresh in his memory, and he had white hair and a scar on his face to remind him daily of what he'd done. But it had been so hard, to end up alone so suddenly at that age, when he thought he'd finally found someone that would be with him forever. He'd missed him too much on that Christmas Eve night, and had been in such despair that the Earl himself had come down to make his wish become reality ( ... )

His hand found the button to the elevator, ignoring the Christmas greeting the machine gave him. He'd managed to make it this far without incident, and he was almost home free.

His hand began hammering on the button urgently. He was getting anxious and he felt exposed right now.

Allen glanced up when he heard the elevator utter a greeting to someone on the other side of the doors. He should have found another place to hide, really, but he'd thought the odds of someone walking into his elevator when there were plenty to chose from were slim.

Wrong, obviously.

Allen wiped at his cheeks quickly, sniffling and hoping it wouldn't be obvious that he'd been crying. Hopefully, it wouldn't be someone he knew, either, and they would just go where they needed and leave him be.
