[And when Irene comes hope to see a cat stretched out before her door, she chuckles lowly to herself. For all the odd rumours that were spreading about the sudden increase in cat population, it was pleasantly amusing to see so many of the felines about.
Quietly she bends down and holds out her hand to the grey cat, wanting to stroke it but reluctant to wake it. She murmurs softly,]

Perhaps I shall have to step over you to get inside.

[One gray ear twitches at the sound of her words and one of the cat's eyes opens just the slightest amount. If she wants to step over him, she certainly can, but perhaps he's not quite as asleep as to mind being woken.

For now though, he'll just watch through that one slitted eye.]

[At the hint of eye Irene smiles indulgently and lightly strokes the cat's head, seeing how it takes to her.]

[Quite well, as that eye slides lazily shut again in pleasure. If there's one nice thing about being a cat it's the attention people are willing to give, and Xigbar has every intent to make the most of it.]

[[Not that she wouldn't be willing to give Xigbar attention normally, but it would certainly be of a different sort.]]

Perhaps I'll have you stay for just a little while.

[Petting the cat's head more firmly, she then moves to pick it up. Petting a cat is far more comfortable when sitting in a chair, after all.]

[There's a slight yowp of protest as the cat's feet leave the floor, but beyond that, he has no complaints. He's just not used to leaving the ground under anything but his own power is all.]

[Humming comfortingly to the cat she lets herself in to her home and settles into a comfortable chair, placing the cat in her lap.

Stroking him along the head and down his back, she makes a curious sound as her hand catches on something on his back.]

What's this? [Combing her fingers through the fur, she found that what she had taken for two dark patches of fur on his back were actually small black wings.]

[Small black wings with white tips, even, and at the touch of her fingers on his wings the cat opens his eyes to look her full in the face for once. Or rather, he opens his eye. The magic that's made him a cat has hidden most of his fairly impressive collection of scars under a coat of fur and has, to an extent, minimized the scarring around his lost eye, but it can't give back what isn't there. As a result, his left eye is left quite firmly scarred shut, making it look as if he's constantly winking.

The one eye that is functional is a very lovely shade of probably-familiar golden yellow.]

[Fingering his wings lightly she looks into his face for a long moment.
If she hadn't been a cat herself it would have taken her longer to believe it, if at all, but-
She had, so she looks at him with a calm smile and says as a statement of fact:]

Mister Xigbar.

[Cats aren't really meant to grin, but Xigbar manages to get pretty close to a grin by way of answer. Sure, he can still speak, but if a grin answers the question just as well, why not use that?]
