The idea of the elevators going on strike and stopping during mid-lift was a decidedly notorious concept, no matter what reason the sentient contraptions might have had behind it all. It was almost something that Loki himself might have thought up - and because of that, he could definitely appreciate the confusion and inconvenience it brought those that it affected.
Why not take advantage of the situation, then, and indulge himself in a little mischief that was already in the making?
It is this thought process that leads him to suddenly appear in a darkened elevator, next to someone he may or may not already know. It was far too dark to tell.
"Ah, having difficulties?" he said, his voice echoing a little hollow in the small space.

The girl's excellent memory let her recognize that it was Loki's voice, and not the elevator's, that finally answered her, but it didn't keep her from jumping when he spoke, almost dropping her grocery bag. Some of her worst childhood memories involved a dark, silent, closed space--the past few minutes had set her more than a little on edge.
That aside, how had he gotten in?
"L-Loki? The elevator stopped."
This statement of the obvious is brought to you by a nervous Eternal and the letter T.

"So I've noticed. It seems as if the 'elevators' on the ship have been keen on giving people trouble, as of late," he said. "A shame you seem to have fallen victim to this one's whims."
He smiled (not that one could see it very well in the dark), and placed a gentle hand on Polly's shoulder.
"You're not afraid of the dark, are you?"

"If it's just the dark, it's not bad..." she explains, "There was one month where the whole ship was pitch black for a week. It's being trapped in the dark..."
And now that her panic was fading, she realized that it didn't need to be so dark, at least, and held out a hand. There was a moment where the air around them seemed to stir, slightly, then there was a click, and a flashlight that hadn't existed a moment ago was turned on.
In the dim light, Polly had the good grace to look sheepish.
"I feel silly, now..."
