Truth told, Yuui had offered to help Marisa, to teach her the control she needed. He said he had a solution to her problem, he just needed to test something out first. Whatever that testing was, it didn't involve Marisa so the witch was a bit worried - especially considering some of the other offers he'd made her. But still, she had asked Patchouli for help. for a few reasons.

Part of her realized that in asking for help, she's admitting she had a problem with control. And if she wasn't willing to admit it to someone so critical of her, she wasn't going to be able to actually make any progress. Also... Patchouli knew her in ways Yuui didn't. And Marisa trusted her in a way she didn't trust Yuui. Not that she could ever put that into words.

So, it was an oddly serious Marisa that showed up for her lesson. This was humbling and it showed. She needed to learn to control everything she had so things like what happened on the last planet didn't happen again. And so she could possibly have an easier time staving off other ( ... )

The situation was odd for both of them, yes. but that would not stop Patchy from teaching the way she normally did. As Marisa entered, she closed the book she had been reading and looked up at the witch.

"Remove your hat. Place it on the floor."

There was to be no casuality here. There was a lesson to be taught and she was going to make sure Marisa learned it. Not as a friend, or as enemies, or even as a librarian and a rat. Just a student and teacher. Normally she would give other students some slack, but not here. She knew that the witch could handle it, and the nature of the lesson called for such strict measures.

Her hat? Marisa instinctively resisted having anyone dictate anything to do with her hat. It was her hat. But...

With a bit of a frown, the witch took her hat off and ignored her familiar's questioning chirp as she set it on the floor. This required her to comb her fingers through her thick hair afterward to get rid of the lingering hat hair.

"Okay."

That hat was to be the motivational factor; a lot of the lessons will be centered around using destructive magic around it and not destroying it. But that would come in just a moment ( ... )

Marisa listened intently and her eyes widened a bit as the fireball moved to her hat. She wanted to go protect her hat, but made herself stay put despite Glyph reacting to the witch's anxiety, fluffing his feathers up and squaking angrily at Patchouli.

"Hush, Glyph," Marisa said to her familiar as she watched the fireball closely.

Containment... that she could do - was doing - when she thought about it. She just rarely did aside from what she was always containing. It was easier to just let the energy go since it wasn't as if she didn't have a surplus. But to contain her own magic...

"...okay, is it like a mini-barrier constructed about it of turning the magic in on itself?"
