backdated before sherlock's clinic log! if that's cool with you. whatsolarsystem June 22 2011, 03:31:28 UTC
[Sherlock Holmes finds many ways to distract himself from the mundane day-to-day activities of the Thor, or of life in general. The pursuit of knowledge in the form of books is usually one of the more effective distractions.

So the consulting detective is entering the new bookshop, gazing around and taking in any details about the new location, as he does out of mere habit.]

You can just call me Sherlock. Though using my last name to refer to me seems to be the popular choice, I find it outdated.

If you would prefer it, I will call you by your first name, dear boy.

My name is Aziraphale. [Which could be misheard as "Ezra Fell".]

["Dear boy"? Sherlock raises a brow at that, but doesn't comment on it.]

Mm.

[Now that introductions are out of the way...] Can I ask you something?

[He nods.] I doubt I could stop you.

[How true.

As he speaks, he wanders over to another bookshelf.]

Do you have something against customers in your store?

Against... Ah... Er... What makes you think that?

You pretend to read while you continue eyeing me as I walk around your shop, as if I'm going to rush out with a handful of books at any moment. Or am I wrong? [He says it, however, like he's sure he's not.]

I... Well... [He frowns.]

[Sherlock waits for a response, though that one was as good as a confession right there, in his book at least.]

[He lets out a bit of an exasperated sigh. He hated having to be honest about the reasons for having his book shop with anyone, let alone himself.]

I'd really rather not sell my books...

[Curious motives, then.]

Then why bother opening up shop in the first place? Keep your books, if you'd rather not sell them. Have a library, like most.

One has better access to hard to find books by working in the bookseller's trade than by being a private collector, my dear boy.

And yet you risk losing the books you've worked so hard to find. Or am I wrong?

I have more than one ace up my sleeve.

Do you, now? That sounds almost devious. Though I suppose any... businessman worth his salt should have a bit of deviousness about him.
