They exchanged their formalities, the 'hellos' and 'it's nice to see you's, but Jade looked decidedly more somber than the boy was expecting, and he wasn't sure what to make of it.
"We should probably make a point of speaking more often," Ion admitted after they'd settled themselves in Jade's kitchen. "Especially in light of what's going on, I'm sorry I haven't done a better job of keeping in touch with you."

"Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't offer unbridled optimism," he began, obviously referencing a particular red-head, "But, I can say that I am confident in our remaining numbers to pull through."

He paused. A subject change was probably in order; dealing with Anise's absence wasn't especially easy right now, given their lack of understanding on how and why people left the ship and what happened to them once they did.
"I'm still been trying to befriend Sync, by the way," he said after a moment. He knew he wouldn't have to elaborate on how well that was going, giving Sync's shining reputation. "There doesn't seem to be any point to our fighting anymore, though he doesn't seem to see it like that."

Including the fact that Sync was still a very dangerous God General, and therefore, a serious threat.
"As long as he doesn't try and hurt you." Jade cautioned, "If that's the case, then Guy and I may have to get involved."

--Which was sort of a good sign in Ion's mind, since arguing didn't necessarily have to be a completely bad thing. It hopefully meant Sync didn't have enough malicious energy to do anything else. The other replica seemed to have moved away from angry frustration and more towards... well, agitation.
"Besides, I doubt I could convince him to meet me in person at this point, even if I really wanted to."

The smile widened just a bit, amusement thrown into the mix. For now, he could see that Ion and Sync's interactions were relatively harmless. Who knows, it may provide Ion with a distraction from the group's less-than-stellar circumstances.
There was also the tactical advantage-- keeping tabs on the enemy in a somewhat convert manner, after all.

Somehow the idea of Sync giving in even now would make things seem too easy. Ion decided he would much rather work to put the two of them on good terms than have Sync give in simply out of lack of interest in defending his perspective.
"It's probably naive, but I'm hoping something will turn out eventually. ...What about you, though, Jade? How have things been, apart from the recent problem?"
