Add to that the current creation of pocket!Gensokyo and Marisa having talked Reimu into allowing a certain supposedly non-magically inclined human in through the gate at will... a minor artifact like this was needed. If only because danmaku was going to be far more common now and Marisa didn't need a stray bullet or herself accidentally hurting this particular human.

Marisa looked around the Training Center with curiosity. "I didn't know this place was here. I'm always worried about blasting a hole through the ship's hull. One of the reasons I haven't been using Master Spark or my Last Word."

"Ah~ I know what you mean. There are a few spells I can't use for fear of destroying half the ship." Fai chuckles a little as he punches in what they would require for this endeavor. Obviously, the room's barrier would be placed on max. As she said, a few of her spells might do more damage than necessary.

He begins to put up a training dummy and glances over his shoulder at her. "I don't think we'll need the use of such powerful spells. You just want it to be able to protect against...?"

"Ah, so you can blow mountains up too if you wanted to," Marisa commented with a grin. It was a good thing she never unleashed her magic to that extent back home; she tended to like Youkai Mountain.

"I'm mostly concerned with it protecting against the common bullet varieties in danmaku, including fire bullets, and the lesser lasers like a Quick Spark."

Fai taps his chin lightly and smiles. He's already got a few ideas regarding this shielding charm. After setting up a few final touches, he steps back and wanders over to Marisa's side. "I'm thinking we should do a few tests first."

He points to the dummy, just standing harmlessly. "Trying using the spells you had in mind on it. And don't hold back. I need to gauge the barrier spell accordingly."
