Sakura shifted the plate she was carrying to her hip, a colorful bag sliding down toward her wrist. She adjusted her arm to catch it, twisting her wrist and knocking on the door to 4-2 as the bag slid back to her elbow and hung there, crinkling. She figured she could just ask the door to open, but eight months -- was it nine? -- on a ship didn't break years of ingrained efforts at politeness.
"What, like you're going to pretend you care about waiting and not just demanding I open?"
Sakura blinked, staring at the door. "I'm sorry?"
"You heard me. Oooh, I know you heard me, but soon it's going to be an, 'Was that the wind? Elizabeth-chan, the demons of common sense and the ability to have an intelligent thought are trying to communicate from the spirit realm again. Whatever shall we do?'"
Shifting again, Sakura found herself frowning at the door. It wasn't all that satisfying, as doors lacked eyes in general, so frowning and then glaring, as often followed suit, left little to no impression on them. "I did hear you. What I don't understand is why you're expecting me to demand--"
"Then what's in the bag? A 'Do Not Disturb, Humans Being Idiots Inside' sign? I could use one of those, you know. Permanently engraved on my doors. That isn't a suggestion," the door added as an aside, "Merely commenting on what I have to deal with. Why are you here, anyway?"
She gritted her teeth. "Listen, I just--"
"Oh whatever, miss, you're going to get as uppity as the rest, aren't you? No thank yous, no polite knocks -- yours was a little on the firm side, thought you should know, maybe you can work on that, you descendant of a slightly more intelligent ape than several other descendants around here --"
"If I knock hard enough, will you knock this off?"
"Was that a pun? Haha! A door pun! How adorable. Not like I haven't heard that one a million times before." The door continued talking.
Sakura felt her temper rising. Someone better open that door, or Sakura was probably going to take it out of commission. (Though this might have been better for everyone, the door included, in the long run.)
