ARRIVING

Once names have been taken and checked to the purchase list at the door, characters enter into a large room arranged in a rough U. At the far end, giant plexiglass panels look out into one of the largest self-contained aquariums on-ship. The stage, such as it is, is arranged before this moving, living backdrop, though there is more than enough room to look out into the aquarium itself.

The right side of the U holds a good number of tables, spaced intermittently to look out into a different giant aquarium. Each table holds from six to eight people, set and waiting for the dining portion of the evening. Centerpieces are tasteful, and larger floral arrangements can be found throughout the room as a whole

[Pip walks into the room, dateless, barely knowing anyone on the ship-- hey, he's a newcomer, and he didn't even know there was a party until he got wind of it on the Guide's network updates.

He looks around, impressed by the scenery. Fancy dinners aren't really his thing, but it's free food and drinks, right? It can't be all that bad.]

Welcome to the Charity Ball.

[ Sakura's been keeping an eye on the entrance, and now, with people arriving, she's on her best behavior with a smile and a cautious edge to the whole strange air thing going on. ]

We'll be having an announcement in a few minutes, but until then, you're welcome to socialize and sample any of the appetizers.

[He fishes around in his pocket for a cigarette, and pops one into his mouth. It stays unlighted, and he grins at Sakura, the cig waving jauntily at the corner of his mouth.]

Ah, right. There's no guest-list or anything? I didn't exactly get an invitation-- not crashing the party, I hope.

She arrives with her hair a little less wild and flattened. In place of the red cuffs usually bundling her hair that rests over her shoulders are gold clips with flowers carved in as decoration. The dress she's wearing is white and the beads are silver. She's actually wearing shoes for once, but how long they'll remain on actually is unknown.

Sakura felt acutely nervous. It's not that she didn't have a plan, or that she hadn't rewritten her public thank you several times since Wednesday evening. It's not even that she felt like she didn't need to be here, because she did feel she had to. If nothing else, she'd gotten this ball rolling, and for all the current chaos it lent to her life right now, it was something she would stick through. No, if anything, her nervousness came from hoping that a combination of the IID effects and the volatile nature of sentient beings wouldn't pay off in a way that would cost all of them most of what this event had earned to get the Refugee Clinic started. They were so close...

She smiled, pulling on her reassuring act given so many times to the people around her. I'm happy to be here. I'm happy you're all here.And so it began

There's an alien couple to her right that she's never met before, and she's struck up conversation on the nature... of peas with them at the moment.

The conversation takes a turn toward the dinner menu. ]

I'm not sure -- you mean there is an extensive ship-raised scallop market?
