RIGHT THE FUCK NOW princemunculus August 28 2010, 02:44:36 UTC
For the past week, Ling had been making frequent stops by the new arrival's office. Multiple times a day, he'd pop his head in, feel around for a particular chi, and when he didn't feel it, pop back out and go about his day. He'd been starting to get impatient, starting to worry. He knew that he shouldn't, these things tended to take time, but after everything that had happened, he couldn't help but be a bit paranoid. And even though nothing was permanent around here, he couldn't help but feel guilty over it ( ... )

By some stroke of luck, the table containing the novel-length stack of forms wasn't knocked over. Probably because it was bolted to the floor. Ed's chair, on the other hand, had not been bolted to the floor and went down with Ed when a slant-eyed prince tackled him.

"Ling! Gah, yeah, I'm back."

He sighed and let Ling manly bro hug him.

"I'm back."

The hug overed quickly though was brief, Ling drug Ed to his feet and began to look him over for damage. Was everything as it should be? No missing limbs or patches of skin? He turned Ed in a full circle and held him by the shoulders at arm's length, reaching out with his chi again just to make sure this Ed was ED and not like. Envy trying to fuck with him or something.

"Are you all right? You're all right, right?"

Ed allowed Ling to inspect him, knowing better than most how easy it was to lose a limb, or two, and that his friend needed to reassure himself.

"I'm fine. I'm all in one piece."

Well. His right hand was on backwards. But Winry should be able to fix that easily. But he was still all in one piece like he had been before.

IDUNNO SOMETIME AFTER. SHE CAN FIND YOUR CHI. getinthejar August 28 2010, 03:38:38 UTC
Mei had been upset. Yeah, that was the word for it. The Grain-of-Rice boy had died... Sure, Ling said he'd come back. But, for now, that was a bit too much to grasp. The newly acclaimed Mr. Edward had died and that was bad enough. Especially considering she was worried about Sir Alphonse more (which was sad, but she did understand how far those two would go for each other now).

So when she felt the familiar chi, Mei had abandoned what she was doing and went to follow it. Arriving at 5-2 she stared at the door a moment, but this was Mei on a mission. Totally different from carefree Mei. Ignoring the talking doors she just... kind of, sort of broke in? Maybe. Mei didn't blow up the door, at least, but when she was in she said one line. Can you guess it?

"Grain-of-Rice Boy!"

No. It's not a happy tone.

Ed looked up from where he'd been comfortably sprawled on Ling's couch. Technically it was Greed's couch, but Ed always thought of it as Ling's.

Mei.

Of course. The chi readers would realise he was back the quickest.

"Bean Girl."

His tone on the other hand was even, if a little surprised.

The little Xingese girl wasn't wanting to be mean. He was the mean brother, she did still try to hate him. After all he ruined her dreams... But she'd seen the sacrifice he made in her time and earned her respect through that. And Sir Alphonse...

The firm face was trying to falter into the upset one, but to the opposite extreme of anger.

"Mister Edward," yes, she said it to him now, "don't upset Sir Alphonse like that again!"

Yeah. She doesn't know what to say. She's trying really, and it's showing in her upset, little features. And she called him Mister Edward, that was reason enough to show that much.

Ed, being the irritatingly observant person he was, noticed the change of address. And if she hadn't been so serious, he'd have smiled. Instead, he bowed his head a little, as she'd hit on the one person he was the most concerned about, his younger brother.

"I won't," he replied. "Thanks for watching over him."

ASAP she catches Ling's post, of course. endureandwait August 28 2010, 03:48:35 UTC
Winry had spent most of the week waiting, wondering. Confused. Just how did this place do that anyway? Bringing people back? It wasn't natural. She remembered all too well the finalty of her parents deaths. Trisha. Hughes. Even if he was here, somehow.

But she had been trying to keep herself busy and not dwell on that too much. As soon as she had caught Ling's post over the network, she had grabbed a wrench in hand and headed straight there. She couldn't help partially blaming herself. That she didn't tune his arm enough, it was not good enough to defend himself from that Hibana girl. That she had failed him. But the other part of her was furious for making her worry her, scare her, and many others, with what had happened. So, she intended her greeting (again) to be via a wrench to the head. One he was particularly used to by now over the years, with all his idiotic antics.

There was one person in particular whose visit he was anticipating with some apprehension. That of a certain wrench-wielding mechanic. Not that there was much he could do to prevent it, nor would he want to. While Winry's violent nature might alarm some people, Ed was well versed in her unique brand of affection.

So when he noticed that Winry had replied to Ling's post (yes, he was watching it in a sort of morbid fashion), he braced himself for the inevitable wrench to the head.

Ling had even been thoughtful enough to program the door to admit her automatically. Traitor.

She threw the wrench in the direction of the other blonde's head seconds before running to close the distance between the two of them, her arms opening to hug him as the threatening tears began to well up in the corners of her eyes at the sight. Relief, anger, guilt and frustration. He was alive. He was back. After a week of waiting. Waiting was all she ever seemed to do, wait and worry and be left to her thoughts and worries too much.

WHACK!

Ed barely had a couple seconds to recover from the wrenching before Winry was hugging him tight. Wrapping his arms around her, he hugged her back... as best as he could with his right hand on backwards.

"M'sorry. I'm sorry."

She knew he'd come back--really she did. Nonetheless, there were oceans of difference between knowing that someone would do something and knowing they had done it.

Polly had come tearing out of her room the moment she'd heard the news, a small red fox on her heels. They were both out of breath when they made it down to their floor, and she had to lean a moment against the wall before asking the door to open. Her voice could be heard through it before it even complied.

"Ed?"

Ed was sitting on the couch, a wide tooth comb in hand as he carefully untangled his hair, still damn from a shower. Hearing Polly's voice, he glanced up as the door opened, a small grin spreading across his face.

"Hi Polly."

The moment the door slid open, Polly darted through, practically leaping for the couch and it's occupant, nearly knocking him off of it. Her words came out in a breathless, joyful rush as she threw her arms around him.

"You came back you're alright I knew you'd be alright you are alright aren't you?"

After the way everyone else had been greating him, Ed perhaps should have expected yet another tackling hug, but all the others had caught him off guard as well. He chuckled a little and returned her hug.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm all right. I'm just fine."

His right hand was on backwards, but that was a minor detail Winry would be able to fix.

Roy never rushed unless it was absolutely necessary. Ed's return didn't surprise him, as he had been on this ship long enough to know that it was common practice when there was a death.

So, he took his time as he walked. A lot had been going through his mind lately, and the walk provided him some time to sort things through. Not to mention the fact that there were many people who would have been eager to see him.

He walked into the room after presenting himself to the door, and immediately looked his state over when he found him. After a pause, he finally spoke.

"You seem to like getting into trouble a little too much, Fullmetal."

Ed glanced up from where he was sitting on the couch as the Colonel entered, setting down the medical text he'd been reading. At least he could count on Mustang to not suddenly tackle him like most of his visitors had. Not that he'd minded the tackles, but it just wasn't the Colonel's style.

"I've noticed a rather disturbing pattern myself," he said, reaching back with his left hand to give his neck an awkward rub. His right stayed in his lap, the hand turned an abnormal 180 so it was facing backwards.

His eyes fell on the automail arm. The condition it was in made him scowl slightly. It didn't last long--it was enough to be seen, but it was gone before it could be fully registered.

"I'm shocked, Ed." Usually, such a statement would have been dripping with sarcasm, but these were different circumstances. His voice remained low and steady, but there was the slightest hint of aggravation in it. "For someone known as the 'Alchemist of the People,' you certainly seem to have lost your touch." He placed his right hand into his pocket. "Or, perhaps being on this ship has made you too soft."

Ed's eyes strayed down to his hand, though he didn't quite catch the scowl on Mustang's face. Was he going soft? How many people over the years had said he was too soft in the first place? But was he was losing his touch? Who could tell.

"Hard to be the 'Alchemist of the People' when there's so few people who know you as such," he replied. His eyes shifted back up to Mustang's face, his gaze yet again older but that old determined spark still there. "Guess I just have a gift for finding people with a few screws loose."
