Who: flightandfight and congenialsinner What: Storytime! AKA Hakkai helps Arietta practice reading. When: Fairly soon after the terrorist threat ended Where: The school Warnings: T FOR TOOTHACHE ( ... )
"Alright, then, let's start with that one." He said 'start' but it was really up to Arietta how much she wanted to do. At minimum he expected she'd see one book through to the end, though. Her determination and stubbornness were quite something, at times.
When it came to reading - it was the long sentences and prose that got her most. She knew how to read - it was just trying to piece everything together - and those books that described everything... She got lost in all the words, sometimes.
She opened the book and started on the first couple of pages - stumbling over the mouthful sentences every so often.
He sat quietly and listened to her read, only occasionally speaking up to help her sound out some of the more difficult words. Most people would have a hard time listening to her halting recitation of the words on the pages, but Hakkai enjoyed it. It was the sound of progress. Arietta was certainly not the best at learning and retaining information - she reminded him of Goku in many ways - but her desire to please was so apparent, it sparked within him the desire to help.
