For a moment, Anise was stunned, and she stood unmoving as she absorbed what was happening. Ion was really alive. She could see him, hear him, and feel him. It was almost like all the horrible things she did had suddenly been erased.
It took a moment to convince herself that it was okay to hug back - this wasn't the cathedral, and there weren't any maestros around to scold her for inappropriate conduct - and she soon reached her arms around Ion, squeezing lightly.
"I... I'm really glad to see you too," she finally said, her voice a little weaker than normal. After all, until a few minutes ago, she never thought she'd see Ion again. It took a lot of willpower just to keep from crying.

The look on Anise's face suggested his assumptions were probably correct; she, too, had likely come from a time Ion couldn't remember--one he had no longer been present for.
"You're alright, I hope?" Confusion was probably the worst thing she was suffering from at the moment, which would be cleared up in awhile. She'd probably met a few strange characters just while she was waiting for him, but hopefully only ones that improved her opinion of the situation. "It takes some time to get used to things here, but I think I should be able to answer your questions."

She nodded at his question, managing a reassuring smile for him. "Yep! I'm just fine."
When the boy offered to answer some questions, the first thought to surface in Anise's mind was Auldrant. The aliens had said Auldrant was gone, and some of the others she had spoken to suggested the same. But that was impossible, right? If that were true, then everyone she knew, including her parents, would be...
No, that was too horrible to think about right now. Instead, Anise quickly thought of another question that had been weighing on her mind. "Um, so... you said everyone here is from a different point in time, right? So... what's the last thing you remember?"

--The mind-boggling case, but since no one seemed to be behaving all that differently, it was easy to get used to if you just avoided thinking about it.
Ion had to think for a moment to come up with anything specific enough to be useful in his second answer. Life was starting to seem pretty normal up until the planet had supposedly blown up. "The last thing I remember was an otherwise normal day, punctuated by a report that Van might still be alive."
He considered asking her the same thing outright, but as it was likely she'd eventually volunteer the answer on her own, he thought better of it.
