Meiran really didn't plan on living in her assigned room long, fully intending on joining her husband as soon as possible if just to keep an eye on the man. With friends like his, he'd need it.

She dumped her black jacket over the arm of the living quarters chair and sat on her legs as she read through the guide. The quicker she memorized the information, the less she'd have to depend on Wufei.

When the door opened, Meiran looked up at the man with narrowed eyes. One of the roommates she was supposed to have? "Who are you?"

On first sight, the room seemed appropriate enough to be seen as living quarters for those who got labeled refugees. And more space would be wasted, for it was more than enough to just live. The bathroom seemed unnecessary though. They could have just settled with shared bathrooms out in the hallway and saved some space that way. Same with the kitchen.

Rorschach, or rather Walter, kept the growl for himself this time as he stood somewhere halfway into the room itself. Instead, he turned towards the voice. Not the warmest welcome. But he hadn't expected one anyway. And he wasn't willing to hand out warm welcomes himself either, so... It was appropriate.

Still. He couldn't quite hide the faint twitch upon spotting this... Person. Roommate?

A girl.

THAT was inappropriate! What had happened to keep genders separated at least?! Also. He wasn't a goddamn pedophile!

Curling his hands into tight fists he stared back, and answered grimly "Could ask the same."

Ruki had been curled into one of the corners of the common area, listening to music through her headphones and occasionally humming a few bars when a melody she recognized came on. With her back against the wall, knees bent in front of her, she looked to be shuffling through a desk of blue-backed cards.

The couch beside her did a fantastic job of shielding her from the sight of most of the room, as only the tips of her hair could be seen above the arm rest. It made sure that those coming and going did not bother her. She was only vaguely aware of the Chinese girl (Meiran, she recalled--they had met once or twice already) pouring over one of those Guide books on the other side of the room, though the two had seemed content to leave one another be for the time being.

However, when a third person entered the room--one who was decidedly not female--Ruki raised an eyebrow curiously.

"Can...I help you?" she called out cautiously, peering her head over the couch with a wary gaze.

Even with the wealth of the Long clan, Meiran's family hadn't believed in sprawling mansions or exuberant luxuries, and Meiran found the tiny apartment to be more than adequate. She didn't know what she thought about living so closely with strangers.

Meiran held her head high as she looked him over to decide how much of a threat the man could possibly be. The other girl in the room obviously wasn't one. But the man... Hard. It was the best description she could think of.

"Nataku," she said simply, folding her arms.

And there was Larry, suddenly sticking his head out of the kitchen. "Does anyone want Samurai Dogs for dinner tonight? I think I could try to whip some up for all of us!" He put on a rather raggedy apron and busied himself with looking for ingredients to somehow create something good for his roommates. It was very important to make a good impression, after all - and to do that, he was going to help out.

"Or maybe...well, I could make...ummm...I've never really cooked that before..."

He was out of sight, sure, but he could still be heard muttering to himself about trying his hand at the culinary arts. They weren't his type of arts, but he was willing to try.

Ruki merely raised an eyebrow at the seemingly random announcement. She had absolutely no idea what a "samurai dog" was, nor did she have much intention of finding out.

The older boy's mutterings certainly weren't helping to instill any faith in his culinary skills, either.

"Just so you know," she called out to the kitchen in a non-chalant tone, "But if you burn down the place...I'll be very, very unhappy."

Larry peeked out again and waved to her. "Don't worry, I've never burned down a kitchen and I'm not starting now!" he declared, waving a spatula - which slipped and fell onto his foot. "Whoops."

He added with a big grin, "If you guys have any other ideas for dinner, just let me know! And...let me know how to cook them, too..."

Ruki's eyes narrowed as she heard the newest member of 3-36 rant in the kitchen area. While she certainly agreed on the notion that coed rooms with such a noticeable age gap were less than preferable...

"Hey. Who're you calling 'little girl', pal?"

"A-are you okay there?" Larry asked the man tentatively as he set out a pot and a pan. "Say...your voice...it sounds familiar..."

He paused, scratching his head as he absentmindedly opened a cupboard. A can - who knew what was in that can - tumbled out, and he quickly grabbed it.

"Hey! You're Walter, aren't you? I don't mind staying with these two pretty girls; they seem like pretty good company so far!"

"It's no great treat for us either," Meiran said to the first man with a growl, her metaphoric hackles raising up at being called a little girl. She was old enough to marry and the heir of her clan, there was no way she would put up with such a slight.

She raised her voice to be heard by the other, nicer one. If he could cook, she might make an acceptable roommate. "Never had them, but I'll second the warning not to burn down the kitchen."
