I'm going to not go on another ranty rant, because I think you said it all very well. But I do think these idea stealers should be tracked by the government and locked away after a third offense.

Meanwhile, may I just bask in the mean-girlness of it all? I feel like walking up to people and saying, "You're not wearing pink today, you can't sit with us."

Part of this may be that I've been up until past 4:00am for the past three days and have about half a page written (out of 5 minimum) on my paper, but most of it is because I get giggly when you get mad at people. I DON'T KNOW!!!!

HAHAHA. I don't ACTUALLY WANT TO BE A MEAN GIRL, but it's just..someone needs to remind folks of how things work. (And seriously, the rip off of Little Numbers made me so aggravated. It was such a unique story.)

I LIKE THAT I MAKE YOU LAUGH, CJ. I like it. Also, get your damn paper written, OMG. :D

That paper isn't due until Tuesday. And I don't know how to write it. Also, I have changed my topic five times in the last two days.

Man. Man. Besides Glee fandom running trends into the ground like whoa (Anderberry Slibings! Bad Boy Whatever! NerdBoy and Jock/Cheerio Boy!), it's so baffling to take a clearly popular story and just...take it. Like. What?

Because look, I've got my NYC!verse that's AU since it doesn't follow S3 canon, and I was terrified when I was writing it that I might step on someone else's NYC idea. So I tried not to read anyone else's writing of a similar nature when I worked on it. Because fanfic is stories spinning off from an existing idea, no need to go ahead and step on someone else's premise just because it got a lot of traffic. It's actually pretty insulting to do that. :-/ I'm old and cranky too, I guess? But like, come the fuck on. Invent your own spin on the things. It's the decent thing to do.

I KNOW, RIGHT?! I have massive theories as to why it's so prevalent in this particular fandom but none the less.

OH MY GOD I DO THAT, TOO. I won't read anything that's kinda close in idea anywhere for fear of seepage. And this a great reminder to grab the link to your latest installation and have a good read with lunch today.

It's TOTALLY insulting. Gah, it's just irritating me today.

Also, how about I go ahead and eat something today so my words make sense?

I think part of it is the young fandom + wild west rules (there are no rules and omg hdu try to inform me of etiquette - aka that thing I keep running up against when trying to go to DCriss shindigs) + how fast things move on tumblr = if you don't write the It fic when the demand calls for it, then omg what if no one reads your fic? (answer: you keep writing but that's just me and my experience talking.)

Ah, well I hope you like that fic. :-) I'm going to busy in RL (birthday week coming up) but I'm hopeful that my inspiration lets me finish the actual 3rd part to that series instead of writing stories from tumblr ask prompts.

The fact that you went and contacted the writer of a similar idea (I haven't read that fic but I've heard of it) shows that you actually give a damn. Everyone should give a damn. Damn.

Oh, I'm sure I'll take my lumps for it, but come on!

*hugs* Thanks for the support, too.

Someone ripped off "Little Numbers" too? I just... I don't even know what to say. Like no one would notice the similarities to THAT fic, one of the most popular in fandom? Is "Def" next? Imitation is only the sincerest form of flattery in SOME cases ( ... )

How have we not talked about that!?!? YES, LN-rewrite. I saw the summary and the first few lines and saw RED. I almost used (DEF) as an example, too - MFEO, bb.

"part of it is just about not hurting or diminishing the other creative people around you" You know I love you, I tell you almost daily. But I just want to reiterate that I do. <3

Like you've said, this fandom needs an ORGANIZED REMIX. And I don't read episode meta until I've gotten my recap done for fear of the same thing. "I want my vision to be mine."

YES. There is a good reason why you are my favorite of all the people, and this is a part of it. A MERE FRACTION of a greater whole. <3

No, you didn't tell me about the LN thing. I AM STILL IN SHOCK. I keep thinking back to when I was in junior high and every time I read a book I loved I wanted to write my own book just like it; it must be the same instinct, but in public on the internet with other people and the author right there. There's nothing wrong with pulling apart a fic you love and figuring out what it is that makes it work for you and incorporating that abstract little emotional kernel into your own work, but that's as far as seems reasonable to me.

I want a remix in this fandom so badly; with the right authors, it could be spectacular. It takes my breath away when I think about some of the brilliant, thoughtful stories that could be told. But I keep coming back to the thought that it'd have to be invitation-only, given the breadth of the fandom and the wide range of abilities, and obviously that just seems awful and exclusive and mean.

I love you, too! <3

Please do it, be exclusive and mean! I want a place to read the works of authors I love and *trust*. I am NOT a writer and would never even attempt it, but I am a reader and an "older" fan (late 30s), so I know exactly what you are talking about. I teach teenagers and it kills me to see how quickly they are to take credit for the work of others as if it's no big deal at all. Everything is available to them with no repercussions it seems - don't want to pay for a song/movie/book - just rip it. Don't want to do your own homework/write a paper - just find it online. Can't come up with your own story - steal someone else's. I know it's not all teens or just teens, but the lack of maturity is overwhelming at times.

So, please keep writing the "good stuff" and if this remix takes place - I'll be the first one waiting to read.

GAH. I just do not understand why people do this. What possible satisfaction can they derive from something they didn't actually do?

I DO NOT KNOW. Quick feedback that is fleeting?
