Star Trek: Into Darkness

I shall say some nice things:
  • I enjoyed the designs of the dress uniforms and some of the civilian clothes. They pleasantly reminded me of the uniforms from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and that's not something I ever thought I'd have cause to say.
  • There was one moment, right near the end when Kirk was in a hospital bed and looking slightly ( Read more... )

It was a pretty dumb movie.

MAGIC BLOOD!

...the only part I really liked was the idea of having Spock fight Khan, because if you want somebody to fist-fight with a super-human, why not have the superhumanly strong *alien* do it instead of the human captain?

But yeah. Anyway. I liked the "fix" that digitalemur posted a while back.

A week or two before the movie came out there was an article in the New York times about how this movie was the attempt to make Star Trek sell in other countries. It turns out that most of the revenue from films these days comes from foreign markets, and that's why there are so many shoot-em-ups coming out in all varieties. Star Trek apparently has never sold well abroad, and this was an attempt to make it so. As soon as I read that, I set my expectations very, very low.

The thing I loved about it was the lovely shape the enterprise took. There was something dovelike about it that appealed to me.

I had to suppress a lot of poorly-timed laughter during this movie. I completely failed during the final fight scene.

I was watching an absolutely hilarious movie. I'm just not sure it's the movie they meant me to be watching.

Last night I realized that it reminded me of fanfic that's been written by someone familiar with a given fandom but not actually all that familiar with the source material.

Zarth suggested that it was a Star Wars movie set in the Star Trek universe... which I think might have something to it.
