It must have been so difficult for John. Seeing Dean taking care of Sam, already knowing that he's baby brother must be quiet, so heart breaking! Great fic.

Maybe it got to a point with John that it was just too hard to watch Dean stepping-up into the role and a part of him had to shut down. I'm sure it was terribly difficult. I'd like it if we had more canon moments to explore this.
