Let's talk about stock photography.

From the stock photography article at Wikipedia:

Stock photography is the supply of photographs licensed for specific uses. It is used to fulfill the needs of creative assignments instead of hiring a photographer. Today, stock images can be presented in searchable online databases. They can be purchased and delivered online. Often, they are produced in studios using a wide variety of models posing as professionals, stereotypes, expressing stereotypical emotions and gesticulations or involving pets.

When I started out making stock icons, really only images from Getty, Corbis and the like were used.
Now, with Flickr, Tumblr, Weheartit, etc. it's very hard to make a distinction on what is stock and what isn't which is why I prefer using the term 'non-fandom' but really, that's not completely right either.

Basically when looking for pictures to use, you need to remember the following:

Non-fandom. Non-celebrity. Non-fashion. Non-(fan)art.

Any questions, suggestions, comments, concerns, etc? Let me know. :)
