Date: February 14th, 2006 Character(s): Su Li, Orla Quirke Location: The Five Alarm Status: Semi-Private Summary: The girls meet to catch up Completion: InComplete
The day of love. Or so the entire world wanted her to think. She rather looked at it as a chance to show folks she appreciated them. She sent cards to everyone she'd ever met in Stoatshead, grinned stupidly over the flowers from Michael, and got ready for dinner with Su. She was looking forward to some girl time. Her work had gone a long way to distracting her from her love life, and tonight should be fun.
She waved at Su, standing as she approached. "Hello, Su. You look lovely!" She was wearing the purple dress she'd worn to Ernie and Eleanor's wedding. She figured she should get some mileage out of it. "Thanks for inviting me. This is a great idea."
"You look beautiful, too," Su smiled, reaching up to give Orla a quick hug. "I feel underdressed next to you. Last year I went to Xanadu on Valentine's, and didn't talk to anyone all night and it was awful. I decided that this year, a girls' night out would be much better," she said with a decisive nod. "Oh, and thank you for the card. I haven't gotten a Valentine's in ages!"
A waitress appeared to take their drink orders. "I want something really girly," Su pondered out loud. "Oh, this looks nice. I'll have the Bellini. I love peaches," she commented as the waitress turned to Orla.
Orla waved dismissively. "I just needed a reason to wear it, and good company is as good a reason as I can think of!" She sat across from her. "A good idea. I've been to Xanadu exactly once, and other than getting hit on by a drunk fellow and keeping an eye on a friend, it wasn't very exciting. And you're welcome. I enjoyed sending them."
"Um, I'll have the same." She'd pay for it tomorrow, but she was not going to sweat it. "Peach does sound nice. Girly without being so over the top like Pink can be." She grinned.
"So how are you doing? The museum work treating you alright?" She asked after ordering the valentine's day special, chicken in a mushroom cream sauce.
"That's reasonable. I've only got one fancy dress, from my brother's wedding, so I wore it to the dance at Hammerside. Of course, my sister-in-law went and chose something strapless. Thank goodness for sticking charms," Su giggled, gesturing at her impressively flat chest. "They're my only hope." She rolled her eyes at Orla's Xanadu story. "Men. I didn't have anybody try to hit on me, but the number of times I felt a hand on my bum.... Ugh."
"I'll have the seafood risotto," Su told the waitress before turning her attention back to Orla. "I've been well. The gallery is fantastic. I ended up spending a full month in France, and learned so much at the gallery there. I picked up a bit of French, too, which was exciting. I've only been back in England full-time for a few weeks, but I've managed to sell a few local pieces to some of the contacts I picked up in France, so it's been wonderful. I love my job," Su gushed. "How are things with you? I'm sorry to have missed so many women's group meetings."
