Date: 13 january 2006 Character(s): Daphne Greengrass, Anthony Goldstein, [Daphne's mother] Location: Nice, France Status: Private Summary: Daphne and Tony visit Daphne's mother. Completion: Complete
Daphne let out an explosive breath she hadn't even been aware that she was holding, and gave him a sheepish smile. "How can you be so calm? I can't believe I'm afraid of my own mother..." she mumbled before opening the door.
She wasn't surprised to find her mother waiting for them in the hall as they came inside and she was greeted with a kiss on each cheek. What did surprise her was how much older and tired she looked since the last time Daphne had seen her. Was it really only half a year?
Daphne took Tony's hand again. "Maman, this is Anthony Goldstein," she said, hoping she didn't sound as nervous as she was. "Tony, this is my mother, Mathilde Greengrass."
Mathilde look at him briefly as if trying to see inside his head, before smiling somewhat coolly. "Welcome," she said, holding out her hand to him.
Daphne cheered inwardly when her mother's smile widened in smug satisfaction as her hand was kissed. If he was planning to charm her mother into submission, he was off to a very good start. If she could get away with sneaking into his bedroom, she was definitely going to reward him for that. Thoroughly.
"It was my pleasure. She has spoken very favourably of you as well. We shall have a little chat about that, you and I. Later." Mathilde said and turned to Daphne again. "I've had a bedroom prepared for you upstairs. The one next to your old bedroom. Go upstairs and unpack, and tea will be served when you're done."
Daphne nodded and was about to tug him after her upstairs when something struck her. "Wait, one bedroom?"
Mathilde just raised an eyebrow. "Yes. I'm not as old fashioned as you seem to think," she replied slowly.
Her slightly stern tone caused a small embarrassed blush to rise in Daphne's cheeks. Don't be stupid, she silently reminded herself, Don't argue. This is a good thing.
