Eleanor was feeling positively wiped out by the time she'd gotten home that evening. She'd hired a woman named Sarah on at the shop and spent the day training her. She was bright, and a quick learner, so Eleanor hoped she'd be ready to take over before she and Ernie left for their honeymoon ( ... )

Mandy was getting dinner plates to set on the table, and looked back over her shoulder when she heard Eleanor enter the kitchen. "Hello, there. Yeah, I figured you'd be less than inspired to cook tonight, and anyway it's my turn, though as you can see I was feeling lazy." She set the plates on the table, noticing as she glanced up that Eleanor looked more than ready to sit down and put up her feet. "How was your day? Ready to go on that honeymoon soon?" she asked with a sympathetic smile.

She nodded in the direction of the boxes. "I picked up some pasta and bread and salad from the pub. And there's wine if you want. I'm not sure when Zach will be here, so I think we can just eat, if you're hungry. I'll heat up some for him when he's back."

I would have done the same except I was eager to get home. I've been training a new employee since the day after Christmas. It's odd being someone's boss."

She took a seat at the table. "Is he working late tonight?" she asked with a frown. "I hope he's not out too long, it was starting to get wretched out when I left the shop." It would probably be nice of them to wait, but she was hungry, and it wasn't like they couldn't keep him company later. "I think we should get started without him, and wine sounds lovely."

"Is it going okay, with the employee?" Mandy asked. She frowned. "I can imagine it feels odd. The closest I've been is instructing the shelter volunteers, but it's still not the same. They work for free and I'm just grateful that they want to." She pulled out a drawer to find serving spoons for the boxes. "Of course, if Zach was here now, he'd claim that I boss him around all the time." In fact she could imagine the exact tone he would have said it in. It made her grin ( ... )
