Su was in the office in the back, reading a book on managing finances. Elizabeth stopped by from time to time to check on her, but Su was pleasantly surprised to find that it mostly made sense. She looked up at the soft chiming that let anyone in the office know when a non-staff member entered the gallery. After sticking her page of notes in the book to keep her place, Su stood up and took a deep breath, nervously smoothing her clothing. She could handle this.

Walking into the gallery proper, Su’s polite smile turned into a grin of delight when she saw her friend. "Mandy," she squealed, half-running over to give her friend a hug. "You came! What do you think? Isn’t it beautiful? I can’t get over how lucky I am to work here." She knew her face was glowing with happiness and pride.

Mandy's attention was quickly drawn from the paintings displayed as she heard footsteps, which quickly broke into a run, and then Su was there squealing her name and pulling her in for a hug. Laughing at her excitement Mandy hugged her back, leaning down and feeling Su's slight form almost bouncing with glee. She wasn't that tall herself but whenever she gave Su a hug she felt like a lumbering giant ( ... )

Su laughed. "I studied art history, it's true, but I think the lack of any other candidates was a factor as well. But Rabastan - my boss - seems to think that enthusiasm counts for a lot, so in that respect I'm certainly qualified. Learning a lot about the business and financial aspects, which are much more interesting than I'd imagined ( ... )

"Oh yes, thank you," she said, shrugging off her parka and letting Su take it, waiting until Su returned from the back room. "It's got fairly cold, hasn't it? There's no fooling oneself that it's still autumn, any longer. I like all the seasons, really, but I guess you've got out of the winter habit somewhat, yeah?" Smiling, she put her hand on Su's back and gently made to rub some warmth in, as they progressed down the room.

She grinned again as Su checked her instinctive, bouncing enthusiasm this time and proceeded to show her around in very professional mode. Following along with interest, she perused the collection Su painted out, taking a closer look at the individual paintings that particularly caught her eye.

"So this is a local artist? I don't know much about art but I like the colour range and the, well, the way the shapes fit together," she said, blushing and rolling her eyes at her own lack of a proper vocabulary for art appreciation. "If I'd known about him beforehand I'd have gone here to get the painting to give to ( ... )
