Date: November 8, 2005
Characters: Gilderoy, Rita, Julian and...
Location: The Gilderoy Shoppe
Status: Public
Summary: Gilderoy's gearing up for the holidays

The upcoming holiday season was Gilderoy's favorite time of year. Sure, it was a lot of fun shearing the sheep and taking care of the bunnies, playing around in the spring flowers and the summer sun, but this was autumn... and the holidays were coming up.

That meant the anniversary of he and Julian getting together, and it was coming up on one year since they were engaged. It was enough to make Gilderoy whistle while he worked and come to work every day like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds to smile on a flower.

Cheesy metaphors aside, he was in a fantastic mood when he arrived at the Gildery Shoppe with an armload of ribbons, bows, and decorations. Knobby was with him, carrying a basket of pine cones and cranberry sprigs to help spruce up the place, as well.

"Come along, then," he said cheerfully. "We have extra work to do today. Decorating work!"

Knobby giggled and trotted along behind him as he entered through the back door. It was still two hours before he normally opened the shop, but he wanted to make sure the season changed inside to correspond with the changes outside, as well.

As he set everything out and prepared for his decorating spree, he began humming a Madrigal song he used to hear one of the Mediwitches sing when he was at St. Mungo's.

Two hours later, Gilderoy took a step back to review their work. Knobby had twined ivy around the bannister leading upstairs, and attached the cranberry sprigs to it at random intervals. The yarn area was decorated with bows in orange, eggplant and gold - Gilderoy's idea of fall colors. Golden glitter flakes and transparent leaves would fall from the ceiling, disappearing just short of falling on people's heads, and brightly colored ribbons in his fall colors trailed down from the dress forms that wore his robes.

"Well, that's absolutely gorgeous!" he said, clasping his hands together.

Knobby giggled and bounded down the stairs to join her master. "Master Gilderoy and Knobby made such a pretty shop! Every mister and missus in town will come to Master Gilderoy's beautiful Shoppe!"

She assessed the store one more time and then ran off to the kitchen to start making breakfast.

"Yes, quite perfect," Gilderoy muttered to himself as he reorganized one of the little stacks of yarn.
