Hannah was biking between the Apothecary and the museum. She'd just about reached Copper Towers when she noticed a woman who looked quite upset. She slowed down slightly for a closer look and thought she recognized Ernie and Eleanor's neighbor, Orla.

She got off her bike and said, "Orla? Are you alright?" She hadn't seen the woman since the previous May, but she looked like she needed to talk.

She hadn't seen anyone, or at least spoken to anyone on her way over, but already she'd talked with Ernie, and yet she was a bit startled when she heard her name. Jerking her head around, she saw Hannah, and she looked concerned. Breathing in deeply and exhaling with a gusty sigh, she gave her a small smile.

"Hello, Hannah. Yes, I'm fine." She absently rubbed her dirty fingers on her jeans. "How've you been? I kept meaning to come by, but things kept distracting me." She managed a more genuine smile now, because she was a nice person, and a friend.

Hannah wasn't sure that Orla's smile was genuine, but she returned it.

"That's good," Hannah said dubiously. "You just looked a bit upset." She didn't want to push it though, so she continued, "I've been fine. Things are busy for me. I'm working at the apothecary now as well as the museum. George and Fred needed help when Romilda left for maternity leave." She smiled bigger unconsciously when she mentioned George.

She waved a hand. "Nothing to worry about. Just came to a decision about things and while it wasn't what I wanted, its for the best." Vague enough to not have to explain, but specific enough that she would likely not ask her any further questions.

She'd felt a sense of thaw, during the burial process, but the look on Hannah's face was like being dropped in dry ice. And it wasn't fair to her, she didn't know. And really, what did Orla know? That he was nice when she fretted, and that he gave her a sex toy, and teased her about using it. Nothing more.

"Oh, I didn't know you'd started work for Fred and George. How nice. They must keep you busy. And they both would be lovely places to work." She commented, focusing on breathing and meeting Hannah's eyes. "Did you enjoy yourself last week? Fred said you and George had gone out." She wasn't jealous, she wasn't. There was nothing to be jealous of. She and George were friends. Period.

Ernie was walking, hands shoved in pockets and head down. He and Eleanor were supposed to go over to Hannah's for dinner. However, he wasn't too keen on seeing her. Not if she were ashamed of him. Admittedly, he couldn't remember most of what she'd written in her owl after he'd taken off, but he did remember that part. So, he'd taken a late lunch. If he happened to get caught up at work, and conveniently miss dinner at Hannah's, it would be a happy coincidence.

Lost in his thoughts, he nearly collided with someone else coming down the pavement. He did manage to catch himself in time. "Pardon me," he mumbled as he glanced up.

Fantastic.

It was Orla. Unless he ran into Smith sometime today, he didn't think it could get any worse.

Orla wasn't watching where she was going, as she was still rubbing tears off her face, so when she bumped into Ernie, she nearly ignored him in favor of making a hasty retreat. Recognizing the voice, though, she looked up. "Ernie." She would have been mortified, if she hadn't just cried for several minutes. As it was, she was emotionally drained enough to just smile.

"Excuse me. Didn't really watch where I was going there. Sorry." She was in no shape to try and talk to him professionally, and she figured he'd be relieved at being off the hook. Just the thought of how little she was helping people sank her further into herself, so she started to walk away, knowing she might continue to cry if she stayed.

While his first instinct was to permit her to walk away, Ernie couldn't bring himself to do it. Not only was it completely rude to leave a crying woman on the street, Orla, of all people, deserved better. She'd spent a fair amount of time trying to help him.

He jogged after her. "Er...Orla?" he inquired. "Are you alright?" Shite. Obviously, she wasn't alright. "I just...do you want to talk about it?" Whatever it might be.

She knew it was not likely he'd believe her, when she was still sniffling and bringing her breathing back under control, but she nodded. "Fine, really ( ... )
