Making his way to the counter, Ernie set his pack on it and started pulling out comics. The clerk, who looked perpetually bored, asked, "What've you got?" However, when he glanced up from the books, he startled. "Er...hold on...I need to...er...get the manager." In a flash, he was gone.
That was...odd. Ernie didn't think he'd ever had to speak to the manager. He shuffled through the comics again. No, nothing terribly valuable. He didn't understand for what the clerk needed the manager. After five minutes, he decided that this was a waste of his time. He began putting the comics back into his pack. Slinging it over one shoulder again, he was about to leave.
"Where are you going?" the clerk demanded.
"To a shop that actually wants to buy them," he replied.
The clerk gestured for Ernie to come back. "Lemme see them again."
He shook his head, but ultimately set his pack on the counter once again.
