The note arrived in the talons of a vaguely familiar owl. Opening it, Marietta smiled, giving the owl a couple of treats and allowing it to flutter around the greenhouse near the back of her yard, where she'd been potting some plants. Finally ready to clean up, she went inside the house, found some parchment and a quill and wrote a brief reply. The owl pecked at her hand as she tied the note to his talons.

Dear Michael,

I'm free for dinner tomorrow night. Shall I meet you somewhere, or would you like to come to my house first?

Michael briefly considered asking her to meet him, but his mother's lessons were too well drilled into him.

Nothing formal, really. Just restaurant clothes.

Although I'd probably recommend that you don't wear a short skirt. Much as I enjoy looking at your legs, you might end up showing more of them than you planned.
