Daphne smiled when she saw the changes. It looked much more like a home now, especially with the panels in place to create the illusion of walls. She could hear him moving around behind them and tried not to think too much about what he was doing and particularly what he was not wearing. Instead she busied herself by picking up the basket and cake again and moving them both to the table, removing a smudge of icing on the plate with her finger.

"All for you. Happy birthday," she beamed, then turned her head to glance at the basket. "I brought you a gift, but I'm afraid it's not very original. I told you I don't have much imagination." She gently pulled out of his arms and pointed him towards the basket. "You'd better go have a look and get it over with."

"Oh yes, considerably," she said with a fond smile. "I think they've worked out the worst kinks by now, or at least if they haven't, they're keeping it very private. Mr Lockhart is a pretty transparent sort of person, so as long as he doesn't seem unhappy, I'm not too worried. At any rate, they're eating lunch together every day, so how bad could it be?"
She paused thoughtfully for a moment. "Which reminds me, I should show Mr Avery some more of all those photo albums I found. He came in our home when I was little, you know, so I've known him all my life. Should be able to answer a lot of questions for me."
