The stalls were set up back-to-back in the streets, and Su was pleased at the striking appearance they made. There were booths for fine arts and crafts as well as food. Su had noticed quite a few local residents doing brisk business the previous day, and she hoped it would continue.

Caradoc hadn't had time Friday with performing or Saturday with working the kiddie tents to actually visit the festival. He had asked Irma to accompany him to the Shakespeare performance that evening, but he was looking forward to just wandering about a bit this morning. He thought he might be able to find a few things to send to his grandkids.

He had already shared a few words with Miss Dominique at Familiar Ground's booth and with Mr. Stone who had a booth close to the bakery selling hot tea and cold drinks. Further down Gamma, he came across a craft booth with potholders, placements, aprons and other things. There was a garish print apron that Cai would just eat up. He paid for his purchase with a pleased grin.

Rabastan and his friend, Iggy, had planned to stop off and see how Rodolphus was getting on, but his brother had been busy so they moved on. The men decided to look over the fine arts booths that were along Epsilon as they worked their way up to the performance tent to catch some of the local performers.

One of the artists was a glass blower. He had both decorative and practical items. Rabastan stopped and talked with him about whether or not he accepted commissions. The pair left after Rabastan set an appointment for the artist to come to the church next Friday morning to discuss his custom order.

Kids Tent shh_su August 12 2007, 16:01:58 UTC
Sunday was to be Painting and Sculpture Day at the Kids' Tent. As Su approached, she saw Mrs. Carter was already there setting up the paints and clay the children would be using.

"Mrs. Carter, this looks incredible," Su said with a smile. "I'm sure the children will love it."

"I hope so," the older witch replied. "My own two certainly seem to enjoy playing with this sort of thing, if the mess they make doing so is any indication."

Just then a young girl came running up with her mother in tow. Su watched as the girl shaped a passable unicorn out of clay and painted it a bright, if unrealistic, shade of purple. Su laughed, glad to see the child enjoying herself, then said a quick farewell to Mrs. Carter before continuing on her rounds.

Caradoc couldn't help it. He had to pass by the kids tents to see what was happening ( ... )

Street Performers shh_su August 12 2007, 16:12:17 UTC
As she walked along River Road, Su grinned. The street performers were already gathering. There would be jugglers, carolers, house elf charmed origami, balloon animals, story tellers, and a clown doing face painting and caricatures.

At the moment, she saw a few of the flamenco dancers. She had noticed them giving lessons on the street the previous days. Su smiled as she passed, then squealed as a hand grabbed her wrist and spun her around. "Manolo, what are you doing? Let me go!" Su suspected that her laughter would cancel out the protests.

"Oh, senorita, you break my heart. Why doesn't a pretty girl like you want to dance with me?" The other members of the troupe gathered to watch, whistling and laughing. Realizing that there was no escape, Su decided she might as well enjoy it and, dropping her purse on the sidewalk, she let Manolo twirl her around in a silly dance that was nothing like what he performed onstage.

Kingsley was passing by the street performers on his way to check on the first aid tent and information booth in front of the Town Hall.

"I tell you, Agatha, I had it from Mrs. Thorton, who had it from Elaine Ziggler, who heard it from that nice woman who sells spices at the market, who had it from Mrs. Witherbottom, who saw them herself."

Kingsley just shook his head as he passed the old busy bodies, until the next phrase had him stopping in his tracks. "Rita Skeeter pregnant? Honestly, Hortence, I don't care what Clothilde Witherbottom thought she saw, that Skeeter woman simply cannot be a mother, especially not with a such a nice man like Mr. Ollivander. I cannot believe it."

Rita? Pregnant?Kingsley didn't know whether to laugh or be horrified. He certainly wasn't jealous. No. That little pang in his chest had nothing to do jealousy. He didn't want to be a father and he certainly didn't want Rita. That woman was pure poison. No, he was content with Susan and he liked farming. There was no way in hell Rita would muck stalls ( ... )

Performance Area shh_su August 12 2007, 16:14:56 UTC
Things looked ready to go at the performance area. Some members of the dance acrobatic troupe were around, warming up. Su checked the performance schedule, pleased at the variety of acts they had found. She was looking forward to seeing the Shakespeare troupe's version of Love's Labour's Lost, and the flamenco dance troupe following that was sure to be excellent. There was a Scottish folk group, an Irish Gaelic harp player, and even Beijing Opera. Su was delighted at how many Stoatshead Hill residents would be performing as well. Su made a mental note to stop by for Parvati and Padma's performance later that day. They would be doing a Bollywood dance, and Su was intrigued.

Padma took a deep calming breath, settling her rattled nerves. She glanced at her sister and gave her a shaky smile. All right, so this was it. No more practice, no more time to prepare. She ran her mendhi'd hands over her pink sari, which had been carefully knotted so as not to fall when she danced. She looked out over the crowd a moment before lowering her eyes, and waiting.

A moment later, the music began to play and both of the twins began to move in the steps of the dance they had been practicing for so long

I can't believe I'm actually doing this, Parvati thought, as she met her sister's eye and tried to work up the courage to start the dance, going over the steps in her head. She wondered how Padma could appear so calm.

Smoothing down her green and purple Sari she waited for the music, and once it began, just lost herself in the dance, feeling more connected with her sister than she had in years.

Cedric had just been strolling about when a distinctly NOT British musical strain caught his attention and he made his way through people crowded to see a pair of street performers dressed in saris and jewelry from the Indian subcontinent. It was fascinating to watch, although some of the others about viewed it with mixed reactions from equally fascinated to ethnocentrically scoffing. It made Cedric purse his lips, inclined to retort that India's culture had been old when the Picts had still been painting themselves blue and leaping through the brambles.

But it would fall on deaf ears. Seeing the two (were they related?) made him think of Harry. He hoped his friend was doing well on his trip.

When the two were finished, he clapped enthusiastically.

Art Contest shh_su August 12 2007, 16:18:31 UTC
Su wandered amongst the art on display near the Museum, marveling at the variety. From landscapes to portraits, pastels to oils, there was a wide range of styles and mediums. Su was glad that she didn't have to judge the contest. Much as she loved art, she found herself utterly unable to chose a single favorite amidst the various works on display.

Lucy hadn't arrived in Florence until late on Tuesday, as the mural had not begun to work until Tuesday morning. Now, she was back, if only for a few days, and was starting to wonder why she'd bothered, except, of course, she'd had to take possession of the villa. She'd managed to get most of her trunks unpacked (magic was a beautiful thing), but that was about the extent of it ( ... )

Celeste left her husband in the capable hands of his best friend, or perhaps Rabastan was in Iggy's capable hands. Either way, she doubted the men would get into too much mischief wandering the fair together while she made her way to the museum. As one of the Trustees of The Georgiana Lestrange Foundation for the Arts, she had been asked to help judge the art contest ( ... )
