Orla had made a special note on her calendar that she was going to be cooking dinner for Ernie and Eleanor. She dithered for a bit on what to make, but decided in favor of something simple, like Chicken Alfredo. She had to run to the store to get some brocoli, as well as salad fixings and a fresh tin of biscuits for dessert. She hoped it would suit, as she'd exhausted her repertoire of fancier dishes for the Quidditch race. She still felt a bit off after eating with Vincent, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it might be. She'd thought she presented herself as up front as possible, but the fact that he continually accused her of meaning something other than what she said had hurt. She didn't have it in her to be honest. For heaven's sake, her vows when she married Miles had been vague enough that if you were listening closely, you'd think she didn't love him. And really, in the end she hadn't but at the time she was trying. And that was the best she could do.
She was working on straining the pasta, keeping one eye on the alfredo sauce as it simmered, before checking to make sure the chicken she'd put in the oven broiler was coming along. She had done a fair bit of tidying her dining room, which had gone largely unused in the past 4 months. She'd a few boxes of books she cleared out of there, and had stuck in her office. She had half a mind to donate them to the library, if there was one, but that was a project for another day. She wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead, and turned off the burners, casting a quick charm to keep the food in stasis while she ran to get freshened up.
