This farm business wasn't so bad once you got used to the constant work load.

Kingsley had been too exhausted the first two weeks to appreciate it, but he knew he was now in better shape than he had ever been at any point in his life, including Auror training. Despite being a wizard, there were many things on the farm that needed to be done by hand, or were simply easier to do that way, and the exercise was improving his stamina and mood.

It had been raining too much recently to tend many of the crops and much of his time had been spent helping Susan preserve the foods that had already been harvested. It was nice in a way. It had given them a chance to talk about more than what needed to be done next.

Farming wasn't what he thought it would be. Not that he really had much of a clue back in November when he packed his bags and headed for Stoatshead Hill. It was hard work. Nearly constant work. Work that couldn't be put off or pushed aside.

At least not if you wanted the farm to succeed.

It was different too trying to be around to work everyday except when he had defense classes or Auror duties. But there was something in farming that appealed to him.

Kingsley loved watching things grow. Seeing them transform. There was something about watching things change and then harvesting them before they changed again.

Of course there was always the transformation of taking the harvest and changing it yourself into food preserved in neat, orderly glass jars. Something that would then resist change.

That would be for another day. Today there was fruit to be picked. Of course it would be much easier if Susan's nipples weren't straining against that damp, tight, nearly thread-bare t-shirt like cherries waiting to be plucked. But her nipples were at least keeping his mind off the light drizzle and the annoying fly buzzing about.
