Date: 29th June 2005 Characters: Megan, Ernie Location: The park Status: Private Summary: Megan is out for a walk with Bob, and they run into Ernie Completion: Complete
Ernie turned around at the sound of his name. It was Megan. He'd not really spoken with her since they'd decided that they were better off as friends. Of course, he reckoned he hadn't been much of a friend in that time.
"Hello, Megan," he said, waiting for her to catch up with him. In the past, he would have hugged her, but that was before they'd...well, before they'd seen each other naked. However, he decided he was being ridiculous. They were friends, always had been. He gave her a brief hug. "How've you been? It's been a while." Ducking his head, he added, "Sorry about that."
"I've been well," she said, returning the hug briefly. "How have you been?" She shrugged away his apology. "Don't worry about it. It was as much my fault, Ernie. We both just got busy I suppose."
She tried to think of something to say, and decided on, "How's work going? Are you still with the Aurors?" Work was something that they could talk about that wouldn't necessarily bring to mind naked bodies, so she thought it was a safe topic.
"I've been well, too. Still with the Aurors. It's going...well." For Merlin's sake, stop saying 'well'! "And being busy for me is loads different than for you. I should've been in touch. How's Ben?" He cast a wary eye in the direction of the dog. Who looked fatter than he'd remembered. "And...er...Bob?"
This really was ridiculous. So he laughed and shook his head. "This shouldn't be this...awkward, should it? We've been friends for a long time, Meg."
"I'm glad," Megan said, smiling. "And please, don't worry about it. Ben's doing very well. We went to Disney World for his birthday, and that's all he's talked about for the past month or so. And Bob's fine too. She's due to have puppies in a couple of weeks."
She laughed with him, feeling the tension that had inexplicably arose fade some. "It really shouldn't be. You're still one of my best friends, Ernie. And I don't want to lose that." She grinned. "So let's just pretend we did the whole awkward thing and go right back to being friends. What do you say?"
