After all, the first thing people were going to want to do was peek in the windows. There wasn't much in there now, but soon there would be. The windows should be clean. While he could've used magic, windows never seemed as clean as when they were done by hand. Mother had always had the house elves wash all of the windows by hand.
Grimacing a bit, he forced thoughts of his mother out of his head. Instead, he focused on Eleanor and how happy she'd be to find the windows had been washed. By hand. With love even. Ernie shook his head at how utterly sappy that sounded. But it was true.
After Eleanor had left for work this morning, he'd taken out a piece of parchment. Despite having pens all over the house, Ernie much preferred a good old-fashioned quill. He'd gotten the spare one he carried in his jacket out of his pocket and sat down at the table. He would never admit it to Eleanor but he'd made a budget. If he stuck to it, there was an excellent chance that he'd be able to propose by the fall.
With a grin at that thought, Ernie wiped his brow with the sleeve of his T shirt, rinsed his rag, and started scrubbing at the windows once again.
