Minerva never liked to fidget. She could not abide the habit when any of her students did it, and she abruptly stopped when she discovered she was drumming her fingers impatiently on the edge of her writing desk.
Normally if she were waiting for someone, she would have a large pile of essays and homework to mark, or strategic Order plans to revise. But now, she had nothing.
She could have started on her large pile of correspondence - she would deal with Theo Nott's letter a little later - but she was too full of anticipation. Besides, every time she started to write a letter, she was haunted by the need to write to Severus. She had composed dozens of letters to him in her head - everything from 'Dear Severus' through 'are you still alive' to 'when are you going to stop sulking and come out of hiding'. She wanted to see him - wanted to finally know once and for all where his loyalties lay. She'd forgiven him for killing Albus - it was Albus she had a hard time forgiving over that debacle. He would certainly be getting an earful from her when she finally shuffled off this mortal coil.
Why was she even worried about Severus? Because Albus would have wanted you to be worried about him, Minnie. She snorted at the truth of that thought, and gave a sigh.
But no, she was waiting for Harry, Hermione and Ron to come. Hermione owled later in the week to say they would be coming over this evening to debrief the Order on the exact details of Voldemort's death. Despite all their assurances, she just wanted to make sure they truly were all in one piece. And to wonder how they finally achieved such a feat. And to ask what the hell they had been doing for seven years. And to ... well, she would see how she reacted once she safely had them under her roof.
Moody and Kingsley were due any time soon. She hoped Remus was still able to come - she looked forward to seeing him again.
But for now, all she could do was wait.
Just as she was about to start drumming a new tattoo with her fingernails, there was a knock at the door.
