Date: 20 April 2005
Character(s): Eleanor Branstone
Location: House on River & D
Status: private
Summary: Eleanor makes plans.
Completion: Complete

It had been a pretty good week--aside from Ernie's strange mood Tuesday, which seemed to have disappeared completely after a visit from Dean on Wednesday.

Her work rooms were nearly completed, and the charms experiments for curing the soap were coming along as well as Mr. Dearborn had anticipated. If they continued to follow his predictions, then the cabinets would be ready at the same time that Mr. Dearborn would know which charms to use on them. If everything went according to plan, that meant that she would be ready to get down to business as early as the beginning of next month.

Of course, there was a lot of work that needed to be done before Eleanor could really open her own shop, but it seemed to be the appropriate time to start thinking about it. She would need product, of course. She was hoping to be able to get to Exeter on Sunday to use the internet. Muggles seemed to be very fond of selling things online, and Eleanor wanted to check out a few soap merchants to see what kinds of oils they were using in their own soaps. Of course, she wanted her own product to be completely her own, but it couldn't hurt to see what was most popular.

Which meant that she would also have to spend some time experimenting with different fat combinations. Which meant that she would have to find more Guinea pigs to test the soap and tell her what was worthy of being sold, and what was just plain rubbish. She also needed to spend more time blending scents, and experimenting with other additions such as oatmeal and whole herbs. The possibilities were endless as far as the different types of soap she could make, but she was going to need more than product if she wanted to really make a go of this.

She was going to need a place to actually house the shop, for starters. Finding a place would probably be the easy part. There were still a lot of abandoned buildings in Stoatshead in varying states of disrepair. Eleanor hoped that she would be able to find one that didn't need too much work, but it would probably be foolish to hope that she would find one that didn't need any work at all. At least she knew where to look for that. Roger and his crew had done a brilliant job upstairs so far, and she could hire Dean to draw up the plans again. Dean probably wouldn't even charge her too much as it seemed that he just wanted to be fed. Though the most useful thing she could probably do for him was teach him how to cook for himself.

Eleanor got out a notebook and a biro, and began to make a list of things she would need. It was a very crude list, but it was good to have a place to start. What she really needed was some advice. She was pretty sure she knew where to go for that. Which reminded her that if she was going to do this, she would need to tell Hermione that she would only be able to work at the Bookworm for a few more months at the most. It was plenty of notice, but she still didn't fancy the idea of telling her she was quitting. She'd only been there since mid February, after all.

Eleanor looked down at her list and sighed. There was a lot to be done, and she didn't even know where she was going to find the time for all of it. It was already nearly ten o'clock at night, and she would need to get to bed soon so that she could open the Bookworm tomorrow. Especially if she wanted to have some time to walk around town first and see if she could find a suitable building.

What she really needed was a schedule. Glancing around to make sure that Ernie wasn't looking (Eleanor didn't think that he really appreciated the value of organizing one's time. He'd probably just worry that Hermione really was rubbing off on her), she turned to a fresh sheet of paper and jotted out a rough plan for the next few days. Once that was finished, she set the notebook aside, and stood to get ready for bed.
